Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Hinnom Valley Park for its stunning natural beauty, historical depth, and the unique experience offered by the suspension bridge. It's seen as a peaceful escape with significant biblical and archaeological interest. Some note the lack of amenities and the need for comfortable footwear.

"One of newly "recovered" places in Jerusalem which got a new lease of life is Gey Ben Hinom (Valley of Hinom) and it's part which is now a national park. In recent times this part of the city became an unofficial waste dump, massive clean-up of the area was required (more than 1000 truckloads of waste were removed), then the road and sewage system was upgraded and restoration of the nature began with the policy being: the least possible intervention. This natural open space is now used for various events, like, for example the Food Truck Festival or free yoga exercises every Friday before Shabbat enters.
This area has also a huge historical and Biblical importance as this is the place which gave its name to Hell, Gehenna, but this is a whole other story..."

Reut Golinsky

"Arrived for the Food Truck Festival, it was lovely and I had some good food."

Perry Churgin

"DANGEROUS FOR WHEELCHAIRS!!! Do not go here if you are with or in a wheelchair the sidewalk was not wide enough for my daughter's child wheelchair 😞, and everything is like a dirt road."

The Historical Significance of Hinnom Valley

The Valley of Hinnom, known in Hebrew as 'Gei Ben Hinnom', is steeped in history and religious lore. Exploring the valley today offers a chance to connect with these ancient narratives.

Within the park, you'll find numerous ancient burial caves and tombs carved into the valley walls. These date back to various periods, including the First and Second Temple periods, providing tangible links to Jerusalem's past inhabitants. The sheer number and scale of these tombs speak to the importance of the area as a necropolis for ancient Jerusalemites. Walking among these silent witnesses to history is a profound experience.

The park also features the Hinnom Valley Suspension Bridge, a modern addition that offers a striking contrast to the ancient surroundings. This bridge provides panoramic views of the valley and the surrounding cityscape, making it a popular spot for both locals and tourists. It serves as a gateway to exploring different sections of the park and appreciating its vastness from a unique perspective. TikTokReddit
