Reviews Summary

Nahal Siah is a beautiful natural trail with refreshing springs, offering a unique stream-walking experience. While the descent is manageable and enjoyable, the steep climb back up is a significant challenge, leading many to recommend arranging alternative transport. It's a great spot for families, though not stroller-friendly.

"An easy (almost) family-friendly trail (not accessible to strollers) that starts at 5 Lotus Street (Haifa). Go down the stairs with a green railing and after a few meters you enter a stream with white-black-white trail markings that for most of the way also integrate with green-red trail markings. After about 20 minutes of walking (a lot of shade in the stream) you reach a spring inside a cave that spills into a pool (it was dry when we arrived at the end of April). A few minutes later you reach Ein Sheach, a round, knee-high pool with cool, clean water. A few minutes later you reach another pool (the Orchard) that seems to be full all year round. The way back on the same path is very challenging because of the climb, so it is recommended to jump in vehicles or take a taxi back to the starting point (a fifteen-minute drive)."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

Navigating the Nahal Siah Trail

The Nahal Siah trail offers a unique hiking experience, primarily following a stream bed. It begins with a descent via stairs marked with green railings, leading you directly into the water. The path is marked with a combination of white-black-white and green-red trail markers, ensuring you stay on course. The initial walk through the stream is shaded for much of the way, providing a pleasant environment, especially during warmer months. This section is generally considered accessible for families, though not suitable for strollers due to the uneven terrain and water. Reddit

As you progress, you'll encounter several natural springs. The first is a cave spring that feeds into a pool, which might be dry towards the end of April. Shortly after, you'll reach Ein Sheach, a distinctive round pool that's about knee-high with cool, clear water. Further along, the trail leads to 'The Orchard' pool, which is known to remain full throughout the year. This pool often serves as a natural endpoint for the descent. Reddit

The return journey presents a significant challenge. The climb back up the same path is steep and demanding. For this reason, many visitors opt to arrange for transportation, such as a taxi or a pre-arranged car, to pick them up from the Orchard pool area and drive them back to the starting point. This drive typically takes about fifteen minutes, offering a much easier alternative to the strenuous hike back up. Reddit

The Springs of Nahal Siah

Nahal Siah is renowned for its refreshing natural springs, which are a major draw for visitors, especially during warmer periods. The trail leads you to a series of these water features, each offering a unique charm. The first notable spring is found within a cave, where water trickles down to form a pool. While this pool can be dry by late spring, it's still an interesting geological feature to explore. Reddit

Following the stream, you'll discover Ein Sheach, a particularly inviting pool characterized by its round shape and knee-deep, cool, clean water. This is an ideal spot for a quick dip to cool off and enjoy the natural surroundings. The water quality is consistently praised by visitors for its refreshing nature. Reddit

Further along the trail lies 'The Orchard' pool, which is known for its reliability in staying full year-round. This larger pool offers another excellent opportunity for a refreshing swim or simply to relax by the water before beginning the ascent or arranging your return transport. The presence of these springs makes Nahal Siah a delightful escape, particularly when the weather heats up. Reddit
