"Battel of war was Unprecedented in the history of the world.Nowhere else in military history can such an advanced cavalry force capture even an impregnable town. Israel was then known as Palestine. It was part of the Turkish Ottoman Empire from 1516. In 1918, two Indian armies crossed over Palestine and fought the Ottomans. The British authorities realized that without Haifa, the movement of troops would not be possible without proper roads. Brigadier General King tried to reach Haifa. But the Turks rained hail upon them from the mountain slopes. With that, the British troops had to retreat. The soldiers of the two cavalry units sent by the Maharajas of Jodhpur and Mysore did not like this retreat at all. Major Dalpat Singh Shekhawat, who was leading the Cavalry, was very humiliated by this. But the British officers tried to convince them that the enemy was occupying secure and important positions and that they had sophisticated weapons. But the Maharaja saw the persistence of the military forces and gave permission for a counter-attack"
