"Mellifont is really just a ruin. There is not too much left to see but the OPW has done a great job to make a visit as interesting as possible. They have an informative center with historical pieces linked to the abbey and you can visit it and get a guided tour of the site for €5. The chapter house is the only building still mostly 'intact' from the old abbey but the site's ruins include a circular central structure with arches and bases of old damaged walls. Mellifont is also beautifully situated in the Boyne countryside and a pleasant place to pass half an hour or so at."

As the first Cistercian monastery in the country, its ruins especially the unique octagonal grandeur lavabo - meant for washing hands . The yester year historic images give a real sense of gigantic medieval monastic life and changes across time on the abbey .The infirmary, sounds of adjacent river, details on the different rooms with sign boards ,strict monastic life ,Beewax and honey usage, Visitor center(Museum ) which was irelands first youth hostel, all Beautifully maintained and well-signposted"
