What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Norseman Triathlon is an unparalleled test of human endurance set against Norway's stunning, yet formidable, natural landscape. Athletes face extreme conditions, from frigid fjord swims to grueling mountain climbs, making it one of the world's most challenging races. While the physical and mental demands are immense, the sense of accomplishment and the breathtaking scenery make it a legendary event for those who dare to compete.
"Service from the older gentlemen was very average. The young women working there are fantastic. Friendly and very helpful. The worst is the food. This was 23 euro and the pie was only just warm. The atmosphere was quite good, they had a guitar player performing from 12pm on Friday and she was great!"
Jarrod Zurvas
"Nice bar, Good atmosphere, Slightly less busy than the other bars in Temple bar which was nice.
Only issue was the lack of accessibility. When we asked the bartenders for the disabled toilet key, we were met with “but it’s only for disabled people”, funnily enough, even though you don’t look disabled you can be. Need a bit of staff training on invisible disabilities I think."
Gaby Lili Ward
"The staff was outstanding. It was less crowded than other bars in the Temple Bar area. Live music was excellent. Friendly people. Clean and restrooms were very clean. I was there on my own but had a great time. Definitely check it out."

The Ultimate Endurance Challenge
What sets the Norseman apart is its raw, untamed environment. Competitors traverse through four distinct climate zones, battling headwinds, fog, and potentially near-freezing temperatures, even in August. The course is designed to test every fiber of an athlete's being, pushing them to their mental and physical limits. Many describe it as an almost spiritual experience, a battle against oneself and the formidable Norwegian landscape.
Unlike many other triathlons, the Norseman emphasizes the journey and the struggle as much as the finish. The iconic black t-shirt awarded to finishers is a symbol of immense achievement, earned through sheer grit and determination. It's an event that attracts athletes from around the world, all seeking to test themselves against the ultimate triathlon challenge.
Navigating the Norseman Course
The cycling segment is notorious for its difficulty, featuring three major climbs that test leg strength and aerobic capacity. Athletes must manage their energy carefully, anticipating the relentless ascents and descents. The weather can change rapidly, with strong headwinds or rain adding to the difficulty. Following the bike leg, athletes transition to the marathon, which is where the true test of will begins.
The marathon is a 42.2km run that steadily climbs towards the summit of Gaustatoppen. This is not a race for personal bests in terms of speed, but rather a battle of attrition and mental fortitude. The final kilometers are a steep, arduous ascent, often on gravel or rocky paths, demanding every last ounce of strength from the competitors. Reaching the summit is an unparalleled accomplishment, symbolizing the completion of one of the world's most extreme triathlons.
