Reviews Summary

Visitors find Sligo Abbey to be a well-kept historical gem with friendly and informative staff. While some note it's not as large as expected and tower access is limited, the affordable entry fee and the rich details of the Renaissance carvings and cloister make it a highly recommended quick stop for history enthusiasts.

"A great old ruin to see, great info from the staff. If you plan to see a bunch of old castles and sites buy an OPW card it is cheap and then you get free entry and no line ups to many sites. I am touching the carved symbol of twisted rope, which is supposed to be good luck if you touch it and if you find it. From the outside of the Abbey, it doesn’t look like there’s much to see, but there’s lots of details inside especially all the carved columns many are different and have their own special meanings."

"Lovely to walk through, very interesting, and the map and page of information the folks working hand out was very helpful. We purchased tickets inside day-of with no issue."

Taylor Maple

"A beautiful abby in the middle of the city. We came here with a few friends, and although we didn't bring any ID we were allowed in with discounted fare. That was very friendly and nice of the people who worked there that day.

The structure was very beautiful, but it wasn't as big as we thought it too be. Also, we weren't or couldn't go up the tower. Next to that, it was very cool to see the old structure of the building though, walking through those corridors.

Would I come back a next time? No, most likely not. But would I recommend you to go and take a look yourself? For the 3 euros entrance fee, absolutely, and I believe it is something very cool to see and view, and enlarge your history knowledge through this!

It wasn't very busy, but then again, it was a regular weekday, and there were like 2 other couples walking around."
