Generally it is easy enough to get a seat, despite the train getting busy at times. And surprisingly, for Ireland, the trains are nearly always on time, or near enough to the time.
Only thing that's annoying is tickets off line - are very much more expensive than online - which needs to be bought an hour or so before departure, so not always available. The difference in price online/offline can be big, so be aware!
