Navigating Massy's Estate Trails

While Massy's Estate offers beautiful woodland walks, signage can be inconsistent. The 6km Riverside Trail is popular but can get rocky, making it less suitable for strollers or wheelchairs further in. Stick to the wider 1.5km Nature Trail for easier access.

Parking and Access

Avoid parking on the road outside the estate, as fines are being issued. The recommended alternative is the Hell Fire Club car park, though be mindful of fast traffic on the road without a dedicated path.

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Massy's Estate for its beautiful, peaceful woodland walks and the opportunity to explore historical remnants like a walled garden. It's a convenient escape from the city, ideal for dog walkers and families. However, some find the trail signage lacking, and parking on the road is no longer advised.

"The walk itself is beautiful but not very well signposted. Part of it would be suitable for buggy's/ wheelchairs but when you get further down into the forest it gets rockier. Seems to be mainly used by dog walkers and is suitable for off leash dogs that are well behaved as long as you don't bother anyone else. The trail I did took a little over and hour and followed the river. A few interesting old buildings which were cool and a nice river to walk beside. Looks like there is horses there a good bit from the amount of horse poop but didn't see any when I was there. Don't park on the road outside it even thought most people do, that's where I have always parked but recently received a parking fine as they are trying to stop people parking there. You can park in the hell fire club car park but be careful walking down the road as there is no path and cars go quite fast."

"A pleasant surprise, not far from the city. Quiet, natural woodland with walks beside the river. Lower walk is 6km and brings you through a walled garden and by other ruined dwellings."

Philip Wall

"Located at the foot of the Dublin Mountains Massy's Estate is one of the more popular nature trails in Dublin. The entrance to the estate is via the R115 to Glencullen and is only a 30 minute drive from the City Centre. If you do drive it is recommended you park in the Hell Fire Club carpark located opposite the entrance as parking on the road can create quite the traffic nightmare.

There are 2 trails through the estate both of which are relaxing and easy. There's the 1.5km Nature Trail (45mins) and the 6km Riverside Trail (2hrs). The roads for the Nature Trail are nice and wide, very accommodating if a leisurely stroll is all you are after. It's also a great trail for small children as there are no steep climbs on the walk.

The estate was once home to a large mansion with a walled garden. Remnants of the wall can still be seen throughout the estate and are still in great condition.

Overall Massy's Estate was a very relaxing and beautiful walk and I highly recommend getting out and taking in it's refreshing scenery."
