What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Ardnamona Wood for its beautiful, mature oak forest and stunning views of Lough Eske. The free parking and tranquil atmosphere are highlights. However, some find the entrance confusing and note the presence of ticks, requiring caution, especially for dog owners.
"A short walk through lovely woods. Beautiful trees and a babbling brook! The parking is free right at the trail head."
Jason Vacare
"A very decent sized carpark that leads to the gates and the path, information on the gate to the walk further down (adjacent to private property) is missing, over the bridge and up to the gates and there we find a NPWS signage board.
2km looped walk with a bench midway - wide path until the aforementioned bench, small path from there in.
Some fair inclines and declines on this walk, & two level small wooden bridges to cross, the latter of the two I noted has a damaged board.
Absolutely beautiful views when the tree canopy clears and reveals the lough - pictures don't do it justice.
Lots of mighty Oak trees to marvel, and to my absolute delight saw two dragonflies... didn't spot any squirrels unfortunately... perhaps another time."

"Beautiful forest, dominated by mature oak trees (which is unusual in Ireland today). The looped walk takes you down to the picturesque shores of Lough Eske.
It can be a bit confusing to access as you feel you are walking down a private driveway and there are no signs indicating that there is a publicly accessible forest beyond that point. You park in the car park about 150m away from the house (see my included photos) and then walk down the trail through the forest until you reach the front gates to the house. You enter through the small pedestrian gate to the left of the main gate and then walk across the bridge and past the house until you reach the entrance to the forest. There is an information board there that tells you about the various flora and fauna to be found there.
Well worth a visit if you are anywhere nearby and with some time to spare."
