"Just a short drive from Dublin, the German Military Cemetery in Glencree is a unique and reflective site, quietly tucked into the Wicklow Mountains. It commemorates German soldiers — mainly from World War II — and is beautifully maintained. The setting is tranquil, surrounded by forest and hills, creating a respectful space for reflection and remembrance.
The site features stone crosses, clear information panels, and a small memorial structure. There’s also a large cross visible above the cemetery — it’s not part of the official site and not easily accessible. Please be careful if attempting to reach the large cross, as the path is steep and slippery. Not recommended for children or those with mobility issues.
Nearby, you’ll find a charming church St. Kevin’s Church with lovely walking paths around it, making the visit even more enjoyable. After exploring, you can relax at a charming café close by, where they serve great coffee. that adds to the serene atmosphere. Overall, a respectful and interesting place to visit.
