Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Sky View Tower to be a budget-friendly option with impressive panoramic views of Dublin, especially on clear days. However, the steep, narrow stair climb and occasional cleanliness issues are noted drawbacks. The lack of air conditioning can also make it feel stuffy. TikTokReddit

"Well for 5 euro it's worth it, but not something you want to climb if you're not in a good physical condition or have claustrophobia. Stairs are very steep and narrow and there's no windows. I only take one star out because it is very very dirty. They shouldn't let people with food or drinks go up. You get your ticket from the Generator Hostel reception, they open the gate for you. The view isn't anything special as it's.. not really that tall. On rainy days the glass gets wet and you can see even less."

Marin “SayanMk” Kolev

"Make yourself a favor and do NOT go here. Costs 5€, you have to take the stairs!!!! cuz there is no elevator, it looks like an old communist building and smell like pee and at the end its not even that rewarding. The view is truly mid, there are no open windows so there is literally no air flow and I'm pretty sure someone peed in there...so just imagine how it smells its also hot and dirty. So please please please do not waste your time, money and energy.👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻"

For Different Travelers

Tailored advice for your travel style

👨‍👩‍👧 Families with Kids

The Sky View Tower offers a unique, albeit challenging, experience for families. The climb up 259 stairs can be a fun adventure for older children who enjoy a physical challenge. The panoramic views from the top provide an excellent opportunity to point out landmarks and teach kids about the city's geography. However, parents should be aware that the narrow stairs and enclosed space might be difficult for very young children or those with mobility issues. TikTokReddit

Given the potential for the tower to get warm and stuffy, it's advisable to visit on a cooler day or during less crowded times. The low cost of €5 per person makes it an affordable outing for families looking for an activity that's a bit different from the usual tourist attractions. Remember to bring water and ensure children are supervised closely on the stairs. TikTokReddit

💰 Budget Travelers

For budget travelers, the Sky View Tower is an absolute gem. At just €5 per person, it offers incredible value for money, providing expansive city views that rival much more expensive attractions. The main 'cost' is your physical exertion, as there's no elevator, but this is a trade-off many are happy to make for the savings. TikTokReddit

It's a fantastic option for those looking to experience Dublin without breaking the bank. You can easily combine a visit with other free or low-cost activities in the Smithfield area. In-depth insights and expert knowledge

A Glimpse into Dublin's Industrial Past

The Sky View Tower, originally known as the Generator Skyview Tower, has a fascinating history rooted in Dublin's industrial heritage. Built in 1895, it served as a chimney for the renowned Jameson Whiskey distillery. At its peak, this imposing structure was one of Dublin's tallest, a testament to the city's brewing and distilling prowess. It once employed a significant workforce, making it a vital part of the local economy and community. TikTok

Today, this historical landmark has been repurposed into a unique viewing platform, offering a different perspective on the city it once served. While the industrial function is gone, its imposing presence remains, now a beacon for tourists seeking panoramic vistas. The transformation from a working chimney to a tourist attraction highlights Dublin's ability to preserve and reimagine its historical sites. TikTok

Visitors can appreciate the tower's architectural significance and its role in shaping the Smithfield landscape. It's a tangible link to Dublin's past, allowing you to stand where industrial history was made and now enjoy the modern city spread out below. TikTok

The Sky View Tower Experience: What to Expect

Visiting the Sky View Tower is an adventure that begins before you even reach the top. The primary challenge and unique aspect of the experience is the climb. With 259 steep and narrow steps, it's a significant physical undertaking. There is no elevator, so visitors need to be prepared for a strenuous ascent. This aspect is frequently mentioned by visitors and can be a deterrent for some, but for others, it adds to the sense of accomplishment. TikTokReddit

Once you reach the summit, you are rewarded with a 360-degree panoramic view of Dublin. On a clear day, you can see a vast expanse of the city, including iconic landmarks, the River Liffey, and even the distant Wicklow Mountains. This expansive vista is the main draw, offering a unique perspective of the Irish capital. However, the viewing area itself is enclosed, and some visitors have noted a lack of airflow, making it feel hot and stuffy, especially on warmer days. Reddit

While the views are generally praised, some reviews suggest that the tower isn't as tall as expected, and the overall experience might be impacted by cleanliness issues in the stairwell. Despite these drawbacks, the low cost of €5 makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers looking for an unconventional way to see the city. TikTokReddit
