What Travellers Say

Reviews Summary

Visitors appreciate Grand Canal Square for its striking modern architecture, particularly the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, and the pleasant waterfront ambiance. It's seen as a vibrant hub for arts and culture, with nearby historical sites adding depth. Some find parking challenging and the area can feel more business-oriented during weekdays.

"My favourite time to sit here is early in the morning before the office workers start going to work and traffic picks up. You can often catch a spectacular sunrise. Check out the independent coffee shops like Il Valentino, Gerard’s Deli and Creed Coffee nearby for coffee and a bite (all of them open early) or bring your own.

If you go during the day, the area will be buzzing with people (especially during lunch hours) but there are plenty of benches to sit so space is usually not a problem. At night, the lights turn on and you’ll see theatre goers and young people hanging out instead of the office crowd.

There is a Weatherspoons right by the square for cheap drinks, Nut Butter if you like healthy vegan bowls, and Herb Street for brunch/lunch (they only open for dinner when shows are running so better check before you go).

When it’s sunny and warm, the area will be buzzing. In the spring and summer you might catch swan families with their little ones.

The only negative is that some people will throw their trash in the water and you can often see a pile of empty bottles, plastic packaging, and misc items. So unnecessary and littering fees should be enforced more."
