"A beautiful royal water palace. One of the must see while in Bali. A very well maintained garden to be enjoyed all day. Don’t forget to buy fish food from one of the stalls around the parking lot.

We can soak into the pool also, if you bring extra clothes. Then charge up at the restaurant or coffee shop inside the garden.

There is also a museum if you interested to know the one who built the garden"

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Royal History of Tirta Gangga

Tirta Gangga, meaning 'Water of the Ganges', is a beautiful royal water palace located in Karangasem, Bali. It was built in 1942 by King Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem, the last king of Karangasem. The palace was designed as a place for relaxation and spiritual rejuvenation, drawing inspiration from Balinese Hindu mythology and the sacred Ganges River. Its construction was a significant undertaking, blending traditional Balinese architecture with European influences.

The palace complex was tragically damaged during the eruption of Mount Agung in 1963. However, it has since been meticulously restored to its former glory, preserving its historical and cultural significance. Today, it stands as a testament to the region's rich heritage and offers visitors a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of Balinese royalty. The intricate stone carvings and the serene water features tell stories of a bygone era, making it a captivating historical site. InstagramReddit

Visitors can explore the various sections of the palace, including the main garden with its iconic stepping stones, the royal swimming pools, and a small museum that houses artifacts and information about the palace's history and the royal family. The presence of natural springs feeding the water features adds to the site's spiritual and natural appeal. Reddit

Photography Tips for Tirta Gangga

Tirta Gangga is a photographer's paradise, offering a wealth of picturesque scenes. The most iconic spot is undoubtedly the stepping stones that lead across the main pond. For the best shots, try to capture them from different angles, perhaps with the intricate statues in the background. Early morning light can create a magical glow, and the reflections on the water are stunning. Instagram+1

Don't overlook the detailed stone carvings and statues scattered throughout the gardens. These elements add depth and character to your photos. The vibrant koi fish in the ponds are also a popular subject; try to capture them swimming gracefully. If you plan to swim in the pools, consider taking some shots of the water and the surrounding architecture to showcase the full experience. Reddit

To avoid crowds, especially at the stepping stones, aim for an early morning visit. This will give you more freedom to compose your shots without people in the frame. Consider using a polarizing filter to enhance the colors of the water and foliage and reduce glare. Experiment with different focal lengths to capture both wide-angle garden vistas and close-ups of the intricate details. TikTok

Experiencing the Water Features

The heart of Tirta Gangga lies in its elaborate water features, fed by natural springs. The most famous is the main garden, where visitors can walk across a series of stone stepping stones, surrounded by large, colorful koi fish and lush greenery. This area is not just visually appealing but also offers a sense of tranquility and connection with nature. Instagram+1

For those seeking a more active experience, the royal swimming pools offer a unique opportunity to swim in the crystal-clear spring water. Visitors are encouraged to bring their swimwear and towels if they wish to take a dip. The pools are well-maintained and provide a refreshing escape, especially on a warm Balinese day. Reddit

Beyond the stepping stones and pools, the entire complex is dotted with smaller fountains, ponds, and water channels, all contributing to the serene and harmonious atmosphere. The sound of trickling water is a constant, soothing presence throughout the palace grounds, enhancing the overall sense of peace and relaxation. Reddit
