#ZakiyuddinHarahap

Reviews Summary

Taman Sri Deli is a historically significant park in Medan, offering a glimpse into the Deli Sultanate's past with its gardens and pond. While appreciated for its heritage and as a peaceful escape, some visitors note a lack of maintenance and cleanliness in certain areas, particularly the pond and restrooms.

"Nice gardens and the best Roojaks souce in medan city..."

asra silian

"Sri Deli Park, opposite the Al-Mashun Grand Mosque in Medan City, is a symbolic landmark with a long history. According to relevant historical records, this park was built by the local Deli Sultanate decades ago for the leisure and enjoyment of the royal family. The scale of the construction was magnificent at that time. In addition to the beautiful flowers, plants and trees, and shade facilities, the park also has a large pond like a small man-made lake, which can be described as a proud masterpiece at that time. It is a pity that nowadays, this park has gradually become somewhat deserted and lost what it used to be because of the government's purpose to preserve the historical relics. The local government does not allow the descendants of the royal family to demolish and renovate the park, as well as the other building properties of the Sultanate's royal family. On the other hands, the descendants of the royal family may be economically incompetent to preserve recent condition maintainance and also lack of the strong support of the relevant state departments for maintainance. It's really a pity for the city tourism spots attractiveness.

"This park was disappointing. I ate lunch here with my class. The large human-made lake was dirty and green. The toilets were especially disgusting and someone had to bring us water which we paid for. Wouldn’t visit here again."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

A Glimpse into History

Taman Sri Deli, established in 1924 by the 10th Sultan of Deli, is more than just a park; it's a living monument to the region's rich past. Originally conceived as a place of leisure for the royal family, its design was once considered magnificent, featuring beautiful flora, ample shade, and a prominent man-made lake. This historical significance makes it a key landmark in Medan, offering visitors a tangible connection to the Deli Sultanate's era of influence and grandeur.,Instagram Instagram

Despite its historical importance, the park faces challenges related to preservation and maintenance. Local government regulations aim to protect its heritage, which may limit extensive renovations. This, coupled with potential economic constraints for descendants and a need for stronger state support, has led to some areas appearing less maintained than in their prime. Visitors are encouraged to appreciate the park's historical context and its enduring charm, even as it navigates these preservation efforts. Reddit

During certain times of the year, Taman Sri Deli transforms into a vibrant hub for local culture and community. Events like the Ramadhan Fair have been held here, showcasing local UMKM (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) and offering a lively atmosphere with food and entertainment. These events highlight the park's continued role as a community gathering space, blending its historical roots with contemporary life.,Instagram,Instagram Instagram

Navigating the Park Experience

When visiting Taman Sri Deli, managing expectations regarding its current condition is key. While the gardens and the central pond remain focal points, some visitors have noted that the pond can appear dirty, and the overall maintenance might not meet modern standards. This is a recurring theme in reviews, suggesting that the park's historical preservation efforts may impact its aesthetic upkeep.,Reddit Reddit

Practical advice from visitors often centers on preparedness. Bringing your own water and snacks is recommended, as on-site facilities might be limited or not up to par. The children's playground offers a recreational outlet for younger visitors, making it a viable option for families, though the general park condition should be considered. Reddit

Despite these points, Taman Sri Deli offers a peaceful respite from the city's bustle. Its proximity to other major Medan landmarks, such as the Grand Mosque and Maimun Palace, makes it a convenient stop for a brief exploration or a moment of quiet reflection. Visiting during cooler parts of the day, like early morning or late afternoon, can enhance the experience. Instagram
