#jakarta #bandung #medan #semarang #surabaya #bali #denpasar #jawabarat #jawatengah #jawatimur #kalimantan #sumatra #sula...

How did this happen? ⤵️ The Taman Festival park should have had roller coasters, 3D theatres, swimming pools, and a zoo compete with crocodiles. But the Disney-style extravaganza was abandoned after two years of construction. It was close to being completed when construction was halted at a time when Indonesias currency was crashing. It later experienced fires (apparently from lightning) and...

Reviews Summary

Visitors are captivated by Taman Festival Bali's unique atmosphere, describing it as a 'ghost town' with immense buildings covered in graffiti and reclaimed by nature. It's a photographer's paradise and a fascinating site for urban exploration. Some note ongoing construction and the presence of mosquitoes and wildlife, advising caution and preparation.

"Even if you - unlike us - don't have a fascination with abandoned structures and lost places, this ghost town is worth a visit. We noticed some land surveying and debris clearing activities when we walked through, so it's possible that the place will be redeveloped. Better visit soon, therefore 👍"

"It was my second time visiting Bali Festival Park to attend JIA’s curated yearly exhibition. As everyone knows, this used to be an abandoned place, which they have now re-created, re-decorated, and re-laid out with lots of installations, galleries showcasing works from many local artists, international furniture and interior designers, as well as several architectural firms.

I would say it was magical to see how it looked before and how they adapted and embraced the existing building in such a beautiful way! Definitely recommend you visit their exhibition next year!"

"A must visit for those who like to explore and admire art. The abandoned theme park is huge with loads of beautiful art everywhere you look. Also a great place to take photos! Expected a quiet and otherwise undisturbed walk with just my partner and I but there is currently some construction being done at the centre that definitely killed the atmosphere. Please bring shoes and prepare for loads of mosquitoes. For inside the abandoned buildings keep in mind there are bats and dogs as well. Entrance fee is 20k per person with a 2-5k parking fee as well."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Rise and Fall of Taman Festival Bali

Taman Festival Bali was envisioned in the late 1990s as a grand, Disney-style entertainment complex, boasting roller coasters, a zoo, swimming pools, and more. It was set to be one of Bali's premier attractions, covering a vast 8.98-hectare site near Pantai Padang Galak. Construction was well underway, with many structures nearing completion, when Indonesia faced a severe economic crisis in the late 90s. The currency crash halted the project, leaving the ambitious park unfinished and abandoned. Instagram+2

For over two decades, the park lay dormant, slowly being swallowed by the tropical jungle. Its immense, unfinished buildings became a canvas for graffiti artists, transforming the eerie silence into a vibrant, albeit decaying, spectacle. This transformation has turned Taman Festival Bali into a unique destination for urban explorers and photographers, drawn to its post-apocalyptic aesthetic and the haunting beauty of nature reclaiming man-made structures. InstagramReddit+1

Recently, the site has seen renewed activity, with parts of it being used for art exhibitions and curated events. This has brought a new life to the abandoned park, blending contemporary art installations with the existing graffiti and decay. While some visitors note ongoing construction, it's a sign that the future of Taman Festival Bali might involve more than just its ghostly past. Reddit

Exploring Taman Festival Bali: What to Expect

Visiting Taman Festival Bali is an adventure into a forgotten world. As you enter, you'll be greeted by vast, decaying structures, many of which are covered in striking graffiti art. The sheer scale of the park is impressive, with large buildings, amphitheaters, and open spaces that evoke a sense of a once-grand vision. Nature has aggressively taken over, with trees and vines growing through concrete, creating a unique, overgrown atmosphere. InstagramReddit+1

Be prepared for an uneven and sometimes challenging terrain. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are essential as you'll be walking on debris, loose gravel, and through wild vegetation. Mosquitoes are a common nuisance, so bring effective repellent. While exploring the abandoned buildings, exercise caution due to potential hazards like unstable floors, debris, and wildlife such as bats and dogs. InstagramReddit

Despite the eerie ambiance, many visitors find the park to be a captivating and inspiring place. It's a fantastic spot for photography, offering unique backdrops and a sense of mystery. If you're lucky enough to visit during an art exhibition, you'll experience the park transformed with contemporary installations, adding another layer to its fascinating narrative. Reddit
