What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Pura Meru Lombok is a historically significant Hindu temple, appreciated by some for its peaceful prayer atmosphere. However, many visitors report negative experiences with inflated entrance fees, with individuals attempting to scam tourists. It's advised to be prepared for negotiation and to dress respectfully.
"Don’t get fooled by anyone wanting to show you this temple. Show respect by bringing a sarong. The temple, albeit very old, is not the most impressive one you can find in Mataram."
Martin
"I'd give this zero stars if I could as there are teo people at the entrance of this temple who would try to scam you. The start at 50,000 IDR and when you tell them Google reviews said it was cheaper, they'll go on and tell you upgrades were done to the gates and all the money goes to fixing the temple. I didn't buy it so I left, then when I came by again they offered 20,000 IDR. Needless to say these people are there to scam you."
Terence Luk
"just beware of the entrance fee. we paid 15000 idr per person after negotiating from 50k. there is nothing much inside this place."

Understanding the Entrance Fee Situation
It's crucial for visitors to be aware of this and prepared to negotiate politely but firmly. Many have found success by offering a lower amount, such as 15,000-20,000 IDR per person, which seems to be a more standard fee. If you feel uncomfortable or pressured, it's also an option to politely decline and leave, as some visitors have done, rather than engage with what they perceive as a scam.
Despite these challenges, some visitors have found the temple to be a peaceful place for prayer and reflection, highlighting its historical significance as a Hindu heritage site in Lombok. The key is to approach the visit with awareness and a prepared mindset regarding the entrance fee negotiation.
Respectful Visit to a Sacred Site
This not only demonstrates respect but can also prevent potential issues with entry or the need to rent attire. Beyond dress, maintaining a quiet demeanor within the temple grounds is also appreciated, especially if you encounter individuals engaged in prayer or meditation.
While the temple's architecture might not be as grand as some other famous Hindu sites, its historical value and the peaceful atmosphere it offers for reflection are often highlighted by those who visit with an open mind and a respectful attitude.
