What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Pecinan Chinatown offers a vibrant experience, especially its lively morning and evening markets. Visitors praise the diverse street food, including must-try local delicacies like pork satay and unique desserts. The atmosphere is generally positive, with many enjoying the bustling energy and cultural immersion. However, some find the 'Chinatown' aspect less pronounced than expected, with certain shops not open during morning visits.
"It’s a muggy Sunday morning. Hot! Chinatown was not really Chinatown in my opinion. The shops were not open and those shops open were jewelry stores. The food and alleyway street with vendors selling produce was interesting . Chinatown is a mere 4.0 km from the Semarang cruise port.
It’s a 13 minute walk to the Queen City mall!"

"Those who enjoy visiting morning markets, this is an area worth waking up early to survey and do some shopping including buying fruits produced locally. One particularly surprising found is the cafe specialised for good quality coffee, humbly called “coffee shop”. While waiting for its seemingly late opening at 9.30am, I spoke to the hawkers in the surrounding area, all of them have their thumb up for this shop. Not crowded probably because it is not cheap by local standard, but certainly better and worth the money paid. This is notwithstanding the fact that I am more a tea drinker."

"A nice night market on Semarang China Town, they sell halal and haram food, and there are live music too.......so just enjoy your visit.😎😎😎
U must try the es conglik, the coconut pudding, and the matcha kaloci....😋😋😋
and since you are on the china town....u must try the pork satay...100% yummy 😍😍😍
Don't compare the current situation with the condition before pandemic, everybody are trying their best to come back after the pandemic and they are doing just fine to make this place bustling again just like old days.👍👍👍"
