What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Mount Batur sunrise trek is overwhelmingly praised for its breathtaking views and rewarding experience, with many calling it a 'must-do' in Bali. However, some visitors have encountered challenging weather conditions and expressed concerns about the professionalism of certain guides during adverse conditions.
"Left out around 1:45am to head to the volcano. Started hiking after 3am to catch the sunrise and we finished after 6am. This experience was breathtaking! Literally took my breath when climbing those steep areas. It was really challenging. Had 2 guides who were great and helped along the way. My tour leader encouraged us as well. I wanted to stop before we even got to the half point, but I endured til the end and finished at the top. Was so proud of myself as am I don't consider myself a fit person. There were other persons hiking as well, a dog also came and native girls who climb to sell snacks at the top. The sunrise was a beauty! Such an amazing experience. There were also monkeys at the top."

"I had high expectations for the tour, but the experience was far from great. The guides pushed forward despite thundering weather, which was both reckless and unprofessional. Their focus seemed to be on completing the tour regardless of the dangerous conditions.
We were picked up from Ubud at 2:30 AM in pouring rain. I asked the driver if it was safe to trek in such weather, and he said the guide would make the final call at the starting point. We arrived around 3:30 AM, and it was still pouring with thunder rumbling. After waiting an hour, the guide initially canceled the trek, but when the rain briefly stopped, he decided to proceed. Unfortunately, the rain soon resumed, and the trail was far more challenging than the agent had described. It wasn’t a moderate path—it was rocky, requiring climbing in parts and extremely slippery in the rain. The thunder felt dangerously close, and I was terrified.
In such weather, visibility was nonexistent; we spent three hours climbing up and down, seeing nothing but mist. I wish they had canceled the trip from the start instead of forcing us to continue in those conditions.
The rain is too strong that we even lost one of our phone.🥲"

Always ensure you have adequate water, wear appropriate footwear, and carry a flashlight or headlamp for the pre-dawn ascent.
