While the resort facilities are generally clean and staff are friendly, some animal enclosures are noted as being small. Visitors appreciate the affordability and the option to bring their own food.
"nice place, and lots of animals, there is also a waterboom, lots of additional facilities such as museums, 3d animal shows, unfortunately when I got here it was already raining just a short walk away. and luckily they have a pick-up service for tourists who are taking shelter and escorted them to the exit"

"I have fun staying here. There's 3 types of house like rooms. Bamboo type, wooden type, and permanent type. The room was new and clean. They provide 2 mineral waters, 2 bottles of tea, and 2 pack of beng beng chocolate for free, and mini fridge as well. You also have free access to mini zoo and playing park any time and swimming pool start from 8 am, but at 9 am the zoo and pools are open for public. The pools are cleaned everyday so it's quite clean. The employees were so friendly and really helpful.
There was no hot water in the bathroom, there were some insects flew into the room at night, the breakfast menu was only 1 and minimalist and only available start at 9 am. But i'll still stay here when i have a chance."

"Visited this place on 19-20 Feb, reserving 1 room for 1 night up to 4 people (price: 600K).
The resort is good and clean. They have a TV, AC, fridge, shower with hot water, and welcome snack (coffee, and 2 beng-beng max).
The zoo is so so, when I visited there are so many reparation and the animal not so attractive.
If you come with your child to educate them, then this is a good place. But if you are looking for fun, you better find another zoo"

The Medan Zoo Experience: Animals and Enclosures
However, it's important to note that some visitors have raised concerns about the size of certain animal enclosures. Specifically, the cages for lions and tigers have been described as small, leading to feelings of sympathy for the animals. This has led to discussions about prioritizing the animals' natural habitats and well-being in future developments.
Despite these concerns, the zoo aims to be an educational and recreational space. The presence of a museum filled with stuffed animals, while not a live exhibit, adds another dimension to the educational aspect, though some find it out of place in a 'live zoo' setting.
Beyond the Animals: Facilities and Activities
The zoo also features a 'Magical Forest', a themed area designed to enhance the visitor experience with an enchanting atmosphere. For those looking for a more active experience, there are zip lines mentioned in the general description, and a playing park for children. The resort pools are also available for guests, with public access starting at 9 AM.
Practical amenities like prayer rooms (musholla) and hut rentals are available for visitor convenience. While the zoo itself is generally clean with attentive staff, some visitors have noted minor issues like insects in rooms or limited breakfast options at the resort.
Conservation and Community Efforts
The hashtag #SaveMedanZoo indicates a broader movement focused on the zoo's preservation and improvement. These efforts suggest a desire to transform Medan Zoo into a better facility that prioritizes animal welfare and provides a more enriching experience for visitors.
Discussions around animal enclosures, like those for lions and tigers, point towards a need for better representation of natural habitats, a common theme in modern zoo conservation. The community's engagement signifies a hopeful future for Medan Zoo, driven by local support and a shared vision for its success.
