Instead of maintaining existing sites, new concrete “tourist spots” are constantly built, only to be neglected the same way later on.
The playground is one of the saddest I’ve seen — not just broken, but actually dangerous for children to use. The small zoo, which once held animals in tiny cages, was empty this time. I wasn’t sure whether to feel relieved or just sad — at least the animals’ suffering seems to have ended.
The concert area is covered in cat droppings, with a truly unpleasant smell, and the beach itself is littered with garbage, much of it likely washed in from the nearby river.
If you want to experience a slice of “local reality,” this place shows a lot — not the culture or beauty Indonesia is capable of, but rather the lack of care for public spaces and the environment. Loang Baloq could be stunning if properly maintained, but in its current state, it’s simply heartbreaking."
