What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Kelingking Beach is lauded for its absolutely breathtaking T-Rex shaped cliffs and stunning coastline, offering a truly unique natural spectacle. However, visitors frequently mention the extreme crowds, the challenging and potentially dangerous hike down to the beach, and concerns about ongoing construction and litter detracting from its pristine beauty.
"A very unique rock formation that is shaped like a T-Rex and a beautiful and absolutely breathtaking coastline to admire from the top, but it really puzzles me why there were tourists swimming by the shore during our visit in March despite the warning signs, accidents, and deaths in the recent months and years. Do exercise caution if you will decide to hike down the narrow and steep path to the beach, wear sensible shoes and make sure to bring plenty of water…and watch out for those mischievous monkeys!"

"Breathtaking view, i came here with local tour. They said to go down to the beach it requires 20-30 mins through steep stairs. Long queue to take pictures during holiday 😂
It’s still walkable for elder visitors (I came with my 60’s years old mom), definitely not for person with wheel chair."

"Stunning natural beauty...majestic cliffs and crystal clear seas make this a really beautiful place.
Unfortunately, it's so popular now that, as per usual, humans have spoilt it completely!
The whole place is now a construction site and there appears to be an hotel or something going up, right next to the cliffs. Even worse than that, they're constructing one of those monstrous cradle swings that i assume will swing out over the edge of the cliffs as a 'thrill' ride...why? Ridiculous idea!
The place is literally knee deep in litter too. Is it too much to ask to put your trash in the litter bin?
Somebody needs to get a hold of this place quickly and stop this insane overdevelopment.
It should be a privilege to come here and see such awe-inspiring natural beauty. The lack of respect for what is undoubtedly one of Nature's jewels is jaw-dropping. I despair for humanity at times!
I hope my two photos reflect the true beauty of the place.
If you are going to visit, please consider what i have said and don't add to the problem. Dispose of your trash properly and try to keep the place looking beautiful, at least for the moment!"

The Iconic T-Rex Formation
Many visitors are content to admire this spectacle from above, as the descent to the beach is challenging. However, for the adventurous, the trek down offers a different perspective and the chance to experience the beach itself. The sheer scale and natural artistry of the T-Rex formation are truly awe-inspiring, a testament to the raw power and beauty of nature.
The Challenging Descent and Beach Access
Despite the difficulty, many visitors find the effort worthwhile to experience the secluded beach. The sand is soft, the water is a stunning turquoise, and the towering cliffs provide a dramatic backdrop. However, the ocean currents here can be very strong, and swimming is often dangerous, with numerous warning signs and past incidents underscoring the risks.
Recent developments include the construction of a glass elevator aimed at improving access. While this offers convenience for some, many long-time visitors and locals express concern that it detracts from the natural, wild character of the beach and contributes to overdevelopment.
Navigating Crowds and the 'Instagram vs. Reality' Phenomenon
Travelers often report encountering 'lunatic Instagrammers and TikTokers' who can be rude and add an element of danger to the already challenging hike. The presence of litter has also been noted by some visitors, prompting calls for greater respect for the natural environment.
To mitigate the crowds, visiting early in the morning or later in the afternoon, and opting for weekdays over weekends, are frequently recommended strategies. Some suggest staying overnight on Nusa Penida to experience the beach after the day-trippers have departed.
