What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Jimbaran Bay Beach Resort & Spa receives praise for its excellent beachfront location, stunning sunset views, and friendly staff. Guests appreciate the clean, well-appointed rooms, some featuring unique semi-outdoor bathtubs. The rooftop bar and pool area are highlighted as relaxing spots. However, some visitors note that the location can feel distant from major tourist activities, and service can occasionally be slow, particularly with laundry or housekeeping requests.
"The good points about this hotel are
1. Close to the airport, it was located in the local part of Jimbaran beach.
2. Excellent spa services. Their massage therapists were even better than some in 5 star hotels.
3. The receptionists are nice and helpful.
What I don't like about this hotel:
1. The clenliness of the room was inconsistent.
First night upon my check-in, the room floor was sticky. On the day of my checkout, the housekeeper cleaned my room even before my checkout, and it was super clean.
2. Breakfast: I didn't eat much, as I had my spa appintment early. I only had Hainan rice, Hainan chicken and a bit of local sambal. The rice and chicken were tasteless. The sambal was adjusted to the foreign guests."

"The bathroom had a very unpleasant smell and the breakfast was clearly focused on quantity rather than quality. Around the pool there are green edges everywhere, and overall the hotel is more show. The lobby looks beautiful and gives the impression of a luxurious place, but if you take a closer look, everything is quite run-down and just superficial appearance. The rooftop bar is nice, but also very expensive. Overall, I cannot recommend this hotel."

"Absolutely loved our stay at Jimbaran Bay Beach Resort & Spa! The location is perfect — just steps away from the beach with stunning sunset views. The rooms were clean, spacious, and beautifully decorated with a touch of Balinese charm.
The staff were incredibly friendly and always helpful, making us feel right at home. The rooftop bar and restaurant offered delicious food and cocktails with amazing ocean views. The pool area was relaxing and never overcrowded.
We also enjoyed a wonderful spa treatment that was both professional and soothing. Everything about this resort was peaceful and well thought out. A true hidden gem in Jimbaran — highly recommended for couples, families, or anyone looking to unwind in Bali!"

🚇 🗺️ Getting There
Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) is about a 20-30 minute drive from Jimbaran Bay. Taxis are readily available, or you can pre-book a transfer through your hotel. Hiring a driver for the day is also a popular option for exploring the wider Bali area.
While Jimbaran itself is walkable, especially along the beach, getting to other parts of Bali is best done with a hired driver. Roads can be poorly marked, and ride-sharing apps might have limitations in certain areas.
For convenience and flexibility, hiring a private driver is highly recommended. This allows you to stop at various sights and avoid the hassle of multiple taxi rides.
Public transport is not very developed in Jimbaran or Bali in general. Most tourists rely on taxis, ride-sharing apps (where available), or private drivers for getting around.
Jimbaran Bay is relatively close to Kuta and Seminyak, typically a 20-40 minute drive depending on traffic. It's a good base for exploring the southern part of Bali.
🎫 🎫 Tickets & Entry
No, access to Jimbaran Beach itself is generally free. However, some beach clubs or resorts might have entry fees or minimum spend requirements, especially for their facilities.
There are no direct entrance fees for the seafood restaurants. You pay for the food you order. Arriving early for sunset can help you secure a good spot on the sand.
Rock Bar is part of Ayana Resort. While there isn't an entrance fee, there's often a minimum spend requirement for seating, especially during sunset. It's advisable to check their current policies and consider making a reservation.
Some resorts, like Sundara at Four Seasons, operate as beach clubs and allow non-guests to use facilities with a minimum spend. For others, access to pools and private beaches is usually reserved for hotel guests.
Most beachfront seafood restaurants open in the late afternoon to cater to sunset diners and stay open into the evening. Beach clubs and resort bars have their own specific operating hours, often starting earlier in the day.
🍽️ 🍽️ Food & Dining
You can expect a wide variety of fresh, locally caught seafood including fish (barramundi, snapper), prawns, squid, lobster, and clams. They are typically grilled, baked, or fried.
You typically select your fresh seafood from display counters, and the restaurant cooks it to your preference. It's often served with rice, sambal (chili paste), and local vegetables.
While seafood is the main focus, many restaurants offer basic vegetarian dishes like nasi goreng (fried rice) or mie goreng (fried noodles). It's best to inquire about specific options.
Prices vary depending on the type and weight of seafood chosen. A meal for two with a selection of fish, prawns, and drinks can range from $30-$70 USD, but this can be higher for premium items like lobster.
While seafood is king, you can also find Indonesian staples like Nasi Goreng, Mie Goreng, and various satays. Some restaurants might also offer Western dishes.

The 'golden hour' just before sunset is magical for beach photos. Early mornings also offer soft light and fewer crowds for serene beach shots.
Yes, you can take photos in public areas of resorts and beach clubs. However, be mindful of guest privacy and any specific photography policies within private villas or exclusive areas.
A wide-angle lens is great for capturing the expansive beach and ocean views. A telephoto lens can be useful for details or distant shots. Don't forget a polarizing filter for vibrant skies and a tripod for low-light sunset shots.
For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
The gentle waves make it suitable for children to play on the sand, and the novelty of dining with their feet in the sand at the seafood restaurants is usually a hit. Look for resorts that offer family rooms or connecting suites for added convenience. The proximity to the airport also makes it an easy first or last stop on your Bali itinerary.
💰 Budget Travelers
Eating at the local seafood restaurants, while not the cheapest meal, offers a more budget-friendly experience compared to resort dining. You can control costs by choosing smaller fish or prawns. Exploring the local markets and enjoying street food (where available and safe) can also help save money.
💖 Couples & Romantic Getaways
For an elevated experience, consider a sunset cocktail at the Rock Bar or a leisurely afternoon at a chic beach club like Sundara. Many resorts offer private pool villas and spa treatments, perfect for couples seeking relaxation and privacy.

The Jimbaran Seafood Experience
While the focus is undeniably on seafood, many establishments also offer basic Indonesian dishes like nasi goreng (fried rice) and mie goreng (fried noodles) for those seeking alternatives. The ambiance is relaxed and casual, making it a perfect spot for families and couples alike. Be prepared for a lively atmosphere as the evening progresses, with the sound of the waves and the chatter of diners creating a unique soundtrack.
Pro-tip: Arrive a bit before sunset to secure a prime spot on the sand and enjoy the full spectacle of the changing sky while you dine. While there are no specific entrance fees, the cost is determined by the weight and type of seafood you choose.
Luxury Stays and Cliffside Views
A standout attraction within this luxury segment is the Rock Bar at Ayana Resort. Built directly into the natural rock formations along the coastline, it offers a dramatic setting for sunset cocktails. Visitors rave about the unique ambiance, the breathtaking views, and the sophisticated vibe. Due to its popularity, reservations are highly recommended, especially during peak sunset hours.
Other notable resorts like Jimbaran Bay Beach Resort & Spa offer a more accessible yet still comfortable experience, often featuring rooftop bars with panoramic views and direct beach access. These accommodations cater to those seeking a blend of relaxation, beautiful scenery, and convenient access to both the beach and local dining.
Navigating Bali: The Driver Advantage
A dedicated driver not only navigates the complex roads but also acts as a local guide, offering insights into Balinese culture and pointing out hidden gems you might otherwise miss. This service is particularly valuable for day trips from Jimbaran, allowing you to comfortably visit multiple attractions without the hassle of arranging separate transport for each leg of your journey. Drivers are typically hired on a daily basis, offering flexibility for your itinerary.
While ride-sharing apps and taxis are available, their availability and legality can vary by area. For a seamless experience, especially when venturing beyond Jimbaran, pre-booking a driver through your accommodation or a reputable local agency is highly recommended. This ensures you have reliable transport and can focus on enjoying the beauty of Bali.
