Reviews Summary

Visitors find Ereveld Ancol War Cemetery to be a well-maintained and peaceful memorial, offering a poignant glimpse into history. The caretakers are often praised for their politeness and willingness to share stories. However, the intense heat and the long walk from public transport can be challenging for some. Reddit

"I visited this placa on Saturday. The manager and workers of this cemetery have been taking care of this place well. The graves are in good condition, but it is very hot so you should wear thin/cool clothings and bring an umbrella or a hat.

I paid my respects to the great Prof. Achmad Mochtar and Dr. Soesilo—two great scientists-doctors of Indonesia—which were also buried here alongside other honourable people.

It is a good place, something worth to remind you of the past and their deeds. There are other similar places and you can get a flyer by talking with the manager.

If you want to reach this place by public transportation, you can wait from the Ancol bus station for a bus that can take you here. The walk can be quite daunting as it is around 3.5 km, so it'd be best if you wait for a while."

"A cemetery for the japanese brutality during ww2. Many dutch and indonesian were killed and they don't have a proper place to be buried. This is the place for commemorate their lives."

Suyandi Liyis

"Entering this hallowed place one cannot avoid feeling peace. It's not the quietness amidst the busy noise from outside that bothers you, but the emptiness and dry sadness that rob you from the colors that burst forth from the pretty sunflowers planted on the grounds. The gatekeeper was very polite and would welcome you with stories behind the stones. Worth visit at least during sacred holiday like Christmas, especially if you happen to have just lost someone."
