"The Museum Rumah Kelahiran Buya Hamka is a humble yet deeply meaningful place to visit. Set in a traditional wooden Minangkabau house near Lake Maninjau, it offers a quiet and reflective atmosphere. Inside, you’ll find a collection of personal items that belonged to Buya Hamka—books, photographs, and everyday objects that give a glimpse into his early life and remarkable journey as a writer, religious leader, and intellectual. The house is simple, but the legacy it holds is powerful. It’s a great place to learn about Indonesia’s history, culture, and one of its most respected figures. A visit here feels both peaceful and inspiring."

"From Padang city, it will take 3 hours ++ to reach the place, but fret not, the journey will be full of greeneries along the way. When you reach Maninjau Lake, it is better, the terraces of paddy fields, overlooking the gigantic Bukit Barisan, is stunning!
The museum is small with records and docs of Prof Buya Hamka life. I wish it is bigger to portray his other works and contributions to Indonesia.
Glad to have met one of his sons - Bp Amir Syakib Hamka. Glad to also met another Bp who volunteered to be the guide along my visit to the museum.
There are also mosque (where Buya Hamka gave his first khutbah) and also his Pesantren (religious school) nearby to the museum.
The place is frequently visited by Malaysians, not sure why, compared to Indonesians. Maybe it is part of the tour package or the long and distance family lineage of orang Minang in Malaysia.
Overall, a must visit, at least once. Dont forget to donate there since there is no entrance fee to go in. All is based on donations."
