What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Benteng Heritage Museum for its historical significance and unique Chinese-Indonesian architecture, offering a glimpse into a rich cultural past. While some note the building could benefit from more maintenance and guides could be friendlier, the affordable entry and insightful tours make it a worthwhile visit for those interested in local heritage.
"It's a great museum with many artefacts and historical value, However i would not recommend visiting when there are other tourists in line. I was unfortunate enough to have shared the tour with some people who were merely there to gawk around instead of actually studying the history and when they were bored, i was forced to leave, making that 30k ticket less worth the cost. The guide was not very friendly either. Nevertheless, if you happen to be in the area and the day there is less busy, i would absolutely recommend a visit!"

"The place is historical and aged like fine wine. The guide told us that there are two Chinese-Indonesia community houses, the one in Semarang, and the other is that we had visited here. The ticket cost 30k IDR. Once inside, you can't take photos.
Contains two floors, the first floor is the main room and kitchen, the second floor is the collection room. This place could be a pre-wedding place if you love historic themes."

"Interesting museum tucked away in the Old Town just behind the popular temple, bought by the current owner to preserve this old building. The building is initially a "kongsi dagang" or trade company for Chinese descents living in this area in the old times. Not well maintained I must say, a bit run down. Similar in state to the bigger, similar museum in Medan. Glad we still have these people to care about historical roots and ancestors, otherwise it would have been lost. But it severely needs more efforts to be able to attract tourists. The 1st floor also can be rented for a few hours for special events."
