Reviews Summary

Visitors find Bayan Beleq Old Mosque to be a historically significant site with unique Sasak architecture, though the visit is very brief. While appreciated for its age and distinct style, some find the lack of information and mandatory donation/rental fees detract from the experience.

"It pretty much just a couple of huts. No information on its significance or construction. You need to rent a sarong for 10k and are forced to make a donation for the cleaning and upkeep. I was literally standing in rubbish when he was insisting on my donation. You can see a traditional village compound through a fence but we were told not to enter. I was in and out of the place in less than 10 mins."

"Nice and quiet place. I only saw it from the outside, not sure if it’s open sometimes. Bring a sarong (or pay 10k for renting). Also a donation is required when you check in (for keeping the place clean)"

Laura Baciu

"We drove 2 hours here to see the traditional 14th century mosque in a traditional and indigenous village. Both areas are beautiful to look at & the infrastructure fascinating but there is no information about the significance the mosque or how to get to the local village (you walk through a hole in the fence at the back of the mosque). You also can’t actually enter any of the buildings they are all padlocked shut. I wouldn’t recommend driving over an hour here if your staying further away because there isn’t enough to see to justify the drive. It is donation based on arrival & you pay 10k for a sarong to walk around the premises."

Its construction reflects the indigenous building techniques and cultural heritage of Lombok. The mosque's design is distinct from more modern Islamic architectural styles, offering a glimpse into the region's historical religious practices. Visitors often note its unique appearance, setting it apart from other mosques they may have seen. Reddit

While the mosque itself is the primary focus, the surrounding area also holds cultural interest. Adjacent to the mosque is a traditional village compound. Although direct access into the village homes might be restricted, observing its layout and infrastructure from the mosque grounds provides further insight into the local way of life. Reddit
