What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Batam Center Ferry Terminal is a functional transit point with direct access to Mega Mall Batam, offering convenience for shopping and dining. However, it can be extremely crowded and disorganized, particularly during peak hours, leading to a less-than-pleasant boarding experience. Issues with ride-sharing access and aggressive money changers are also noted.
"Grab cars can not enter the ferry terminal, so passengers have to walk out to wait for the car under the link bridge. Ticket collection at level 1, collect at least 90mins in advance. Luggage check in at level 1, opens 60mins before departure. There is duty free shop and a mini coffee bar inside the departure hall."

"I’d give zero stars if I could. We were misled by an immigration officer in Batam, who sold us a 7-day visa without telling us it was valid ONLY FOR BATAM. Since we were speaking English, it was obvious we were tourists – withholding such crucial information is unacceptable. It didn’t even say on the visa itself. We only found out at Jakarta airport, when we were denied boarding for our flight back to Germany. We lost all our booked flights, had to overstay our visa, travel back to Batam, pay fines, and spend over €2000 just to get home.
Back at Batam Ferry Terminal, the ordeal continued: officers delayed us for no reason, gave us false instructions on how to pay the fine, and only acted once money was involved. The whole process felt like a power game, leaving us stressed, terrified, and completely betrayed.
This ruined our holiday and traumatised us. What happened feels less like a mistake and more like a scam – and I will never return."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Consider packing snacks and drinks, as options inside the terminal itself are limited and can be pricey. If you're using ride-sharing services, be prepared for the walk to the pickup point. Having a stroller might be helpful for navigating the terminal and the mall.
💰 Budget Travelers
When it comes to transportation, while Grab is convenient, the walk to the pickup point is unavoidable. Compare taxi fares with ride-sharing costs if you're on a tight budget. Having some Indonesian Rupiah on hand is recommended, though check exchange rates carefully.

Navigating Ferry Services
When planning your trip, remember that ticket collection and luggage check-in have specific timings. Arriving at least 90 minutes before departure is crucial for a smooth process, as luggage check-in typically opens only 60 minutes prior. This buffer time is essential, especially during peak travel periods when the terminal can become quite congested.
For those arriving from Singapore, be aware of visa requirements. Some travelers have reported being misled about visa validity, which can lead to significant issues. Always clarify the exact terms and conditions of your visa, especially if it's a visa-on-arrival, to ensure it covers your intended travel plans beyond Batam.
Terminal Amenities and Connectivity
Connectivity is a key consideration for travelers. While ride-sharing services like Grab are popular, they cannot enter the terminal premises. Passengers need to walk to the designated pickup point under the link bridge to meet their drivers. This can be an inconvenience, especially with heavy luggage. Taxis are readily available outside the terminal for those preferring traditional transport.
Money changers are present within the terminal, but some travelers have noted they can be quite aggressive in their approach. It's advisable to compare rates or have some local currency on hand before arriving to avoid any hassle. For those looking to stay nearby, several hotels are located in the vicinity of the Batam Center Ferry Terminal.
