What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Bali Mangrove Forest offers a unique natural experience with its dense greenery and waterways, perfect for kayaking and photography. However, visitors often express disappointment with the significant price difference for foreigners and the poor maintenance of boardwalks and cleanliness, which detracts from its potential as a world-class destination.
"Super unique path trough the mangroves. I really liked it and want to go there again. It’s so much find and you get so nice pics there. There is also a tower for a amazing view and a break. Must see in Bali :)"

"It's a nice place to see some natural reserve. The mangroves are mature and you can interact with local fishermens. The thing is, some of the boardwalks aren't really save because of rotting and tilting, so I would not recommends anyone with active children, elderly and overweight people to visit. Also the place looks rather dirty with trash and graffiti everywhere. Looking at the ruined infrastructures, it seems like this place have seen a better times, but recently fell into disrepair, as seen from graffiti, trash and rotten woods here and there. Hope they will improve things and maybe put more trash bin here and there."

"The place is very unique. Its home of mangroves trees and obviously habitat of many sea lives. The mangrove itself is an amazing tree that offered such nature beauty. Walking among the mangroves forest is an unforgetable experience."

Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Consider the significant price difference for foreign tourists when planning your family's budget. While the natural beauty is undeniable, the current state of maintenance might detract from the overall family enjoyment. If you choose to visit, focus on the kayaking experience for a more controlled and engaging adventure for the kids.
💰 Budget Travelers
While the natural beauty is a draw, be aware that the upkeep of the facilities may not meet everyone's expectations, especially considering the cost. Some travelers suggest that focusing on other, better-maintained attractions in Bali might offer more value for money if budget is a primary concern.
🌿 Nature Enthusiasts
While the ecological importance of mangroves is immense, be prepared for potential disappointment regarding the site's maintenance. Despite the litter and some dilapidated infrastructure, the raw beauty of the mangrove forest itself remains a powerful draw. Consider it an opportunity to appreciate nature's resilience while also being mindful of the conservation needs.

The Ecological Importance of Mangroves
Beyond coastal protection, mangroves serve as essential nurseries for a wide variety of marine life, including fish and crustaceans. They also provide critical habitats for numerous bird species and other wildlife, contributing significantly to biodiversity. Understanding this ecological significance enhances the visitor experience, turning a walk into an appreciation of nature's resilience.
Efforts to maintain and restore mangrove areas are ongoing, recognizing their invaluable contribution to both the environment and local communities. Visitors can contribute by being mindful of their impact and supporting conservation initiatives.
Exploring the Mangroves: Kayaking vs. Boardwalks
However, many visitors find kayaking or paddleboarding to be the most immersive and enjoyable experience. Gliding silently through the calm waters, surrounded by the dense foliage and the sounds of nature, offers a profound connection to the environment. This method allows for closer observation of marine life and a more intimate encounter with the mangrove's intricate root systems.
It's important to note that while the boardwalks offer convenience, some sections have fallen into disrepair, posing potential safety concerns. Kayaking, while more adventurous, provides a unique perspective and a memorable way to navigate this special natural reserve.
Visitor Experiences and Maintenance Concerns
However, a recurring theme in feedback is the concern over the maintenance and upkeep of the facilities. Several reviews mention unstable boardwalks, litter, and graffiti, suggesting that the area has seen better days and requires immediate attention to meet international tourism standards. This lack of maintenance has led to disappointment for some, especially given the significant entry fee for foreign tourists.
Despite these issues, the inherent natural beauty of the mangrove ecosystem continues to draw visitors. The hope among many is that improvements will be made to preserve and enhance this valuable natural asset for future generations.
