"Unique, clean, and cool. The first tomb is the best. Entry is also free, no tickets, just voluntary."
Chris Adriel
"Astana Girilayu is a burial complex belonging to the Mangkunegaran family.
Located on a hill in Karang Pandan sub-district, Karang Anyar, Central Java, Indonesia.
Astana is a Javanese word which means "rest", while Girilayu means "Withered Mountain".
This tomb was built by KGPAA Mangkunegara IV (the fourth ruler of the Mangkunegaran Duchy).
The cupola (Mausoleum) of Mangkunegara IV's burial is the center of this burial complex. The dimensions are 20x10x7 meters, and the entire building is made of iron imported directly from the Netherlands.
As if to illustrate Mangkunegara IV's infatuation with industry.
The floor and headstone of the tomb are made of marble, and not just any marble because it was ordered directly from Mount Carara, Italy.
According to the grave guard; Mr Warto, this iron building was not built in Girilayu, but was built in the Netherlands,
then taken by ship to Java, landed in Semarang, taken by special train to Surakarta.
then transported manually to Girilayu which reaches a height of 1250 meters above sea level.
Once it arrives, then the marble is installed.
Amazing isn't it...
For those who have never been here, come on a pilgrimage here.
Rahayu.."
