What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Barda Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is a developing destination, now featuring a Lion Safari with relocated lions from Gir. Visitors appreciate the lush greenery and natural beauty, with temples offering scenic views. However, expectations for guaranteed lion sightings should be managed, as some report seeing more domestic animals and birds. Accommodation is best arranged in nearby towns.
"This is now officially a Lion Safari. There are lions relocated from Sasan Gir. It's just 75kms from Jamnagar Airport-Railway Station & 40kms from Porbandar Airport-Railway Station. The big five here are Lions, Leopards, Hyenas, Crocodiles & Wolves. This sanctuary also has scattered settlements of an indigenous tribe of cattle breeders called Maldharis. It's a new alternative to the Gir forest and so hotel accomodation need to be arranged in Jamnagar, Khambhaliya or Porbandar. There are 2 daily Safaris, one in the morning & one in the afternoon/evening. There is the Kileshwar Mahadev Temple on a hill in the middle of the sanctuary which is accessible by vehicle. And there is an Ashapura Mata Temple, at Ghumli, on a hill on the periphery of the sanctuary which is a 1000 steps climb. But the view from this temple is priceless. Lace up Your Explorer shoes & make a dash for it. Worth avoiding the over crowding at Sasan Gir sanctuary."

"Its a total scam if your looking for safari or searching lion. Its a track in outskirts of jungle area, will drive u through different small resident area of people cattle keeper. Seen nothing more than cow, buffalo, camel, and few 2-3 species of birds. Just making people fool by showing lion and leopard. Even staff says its jungle safari not lion safari. 2200 total waste better visit gir safari."

Exploring the Temples of Barda Hills

Navigating Safari Expectations
Some visitors have expressed disappointment, feeling it was a 'scam' if their sole focus was guaranteed lion sightings, with staff sometimes clarifying it as a 'jungle safari' rather than a 'lion safari'. This suggests that the sanctuary offers a broader natural experience rather than a concentrated big cat viewing park like Sasan Gir. Therefore, approaching the visit with an appreciation for the diverse flora and fauna, the natural landscape, and the cultural aspects of the Maldhari communities will likely lead to a more satisfying experience.
