"Visited on 21 Sep and it was a steady rain when we got there. Parking is ok and tickets are 100 per person, which is quite steep. It is an easy climb down and the view is nice . Given that it was raining , the water was carrying a lot of sediment and hence brown/ muddy . Nevertheless it is always exhilarating and yet soothing to experience a cascade in full flow.
Did not try it , but there is a cafe just as you descend to the falls. The climb up can be challenging for elderly folks, big steps ."

Understanding the Name and History
The British administration during their rule in India named the falls, likely due to the prominent elephant-shaped rock. This historical naming convention is common in many places colonized by Europeans. While the original rock is no longer visible, the name serves as a reminder of the area's past and its natural formations.
Visiting Elephant Falls offers a glimpse into the geological history and the natural beauty of Meghalaya. The falls are a testament to the powerful forces of nature and the enduring charm of the region.
Navigating the Tiers and Trails
The descent to the lower tiers provides increasingly dramatic views of the waterfall. Along the way, you'll find numerous spots perfect for pausing, taking photos, and simply soaking in the refreshing atmosphere. The sound of the water and the surrounding lush greenery create a tranquil environment, making the climb worthwhile.
While the climb can be tiring, it's generally considered manageable for most visitors. The effort is rewarded with stunning natural beauty and a sense of accomplishment. Remember to wear comfortable shoes and take your time to enjoy the journey.
Best Times for Photography and Viewing
Instead, aim for the post-monsoon months (October to November) when the water is clearer and the surrounding vegetation is lush and vibrant. Early mornings and late afternoons are also ideal. The soft light during these times enhances the beauty of the falls and the landscape, and you'll also find fewer crowds, allowing for more relaxed exploration and better photo opportunities.
Consider the angle of the sun when planning your visit. The golden hour light can create a magical glow on the water and the surrounding rocks. Be prepared for potential water spray, which can affect your camera lens, so bring appropriate protective gear.
