What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Dubare Elephant Camp for its unique elephant interactions, including bathing and feeding opportunities. The boat ride across the Cauvery River is a highlight, and the camp is considered well-organized. However, long queues and specific, limited timings can be a drawback for some.
"The Dubare camp is one of the attraction spots on the way to coorg in Rangasamudra. It is only opened from 9 am to 11 am & 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm everyday. I would recommend to go early to purchase the ticket (before 1 hr) as it is always crowded and most preferably in the morning to get the best experience. The ticket costs 210 per person which includes boat ride as well to reach the camp in the monsoon season. They have a dozen of elephants to view. We can feed them, click a photo with them and even bathe them but with a cost. Bathing is only allowed in the morning. Feeding & clicking a photo costs 50 rupees. Bathing costs 250, I guess. If you have childrens, this is one of tourist attractions and ofcourse, adults will also enjoy the atmosphere.
P.S : We visited in the evening. 5.30 PM, they will close the ticket counter."

"It was an excellent experience in camp. For the first time I have seen elephants at a very closed distance. Also they allowed me to touch them. The elephants were also humble and friendly especially the small ones which loved to handshakes with their trunks. One elephant was bathing and throwed water with their trunk on us. It was such a memorable experience in dubare. Must visit this camp if you're planning for Coorg. Don't know if you'd like the price but for me the price and experience was justified. If you see elephants regularly, then don't go. But it's a one time experience worth to have a look for yourself."

"Visited with the kids but enjoyed my self as well. Never interacted or seen elephants so closely. They are doing a very good job with maintenance and taking care of the elephants. The long queue is totally worth it. Better if you can plan to reach early. Must visit if you are in coorg"

Understanding the Elephant Experience
Key activities include observing the elephants during their bath in the Cauvery River, a sight that often delights visitors with playful splashes. You can also purchase special food items to feed the elephants, a truly memorable interaction. While elephant rides were historically offered, current information suggests a focus on interaction rather than rides.
It's important to note that while the camp offers a wonderful experience, some visitors have noted that certain activities like bathing might not always be available due to river conditions or other factors. Always check on-site for the most current information regarding available activities.
Navigating the Camp and River Crossing
During periods of low water, visitors might be able to walk across the riverbed. However, it's crucial to be mindful of the terrain, especially during the monsoon or summer months when rocks can become slippery. The camp operates on a strict schedule, with two main visiting windows each day. Arriving early is highly recommended to avoid long queues for both tickets and the boat crossing, ensuring you make the most of your visit.
Planning your visit around these timings is essential. The camp's location, on the way to Coorg and not too far from Mysore, makes it an accessible day trip or a stopover for many travelers exploring the region.
