Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Bhaja Caves for their historical significance, stunning rock-cut architecture, and the serene natural beauty, especially during monsoon. The ancient carvings and the sheer scale of the rock-cut structures are frequently highlighted as awe-inspiring. Some find the multiple entry/parking fees slightly confusing, and the climb can be challenging for some.

"What a wonderful place. First of Buddhist caves in India dating back to 2700 years old...BC Era. The architecture of Chaityagriha is jaw dropping. Total 29 caves and stupas. Entire structure is full of beautiful stone carvings and tons of monumental structures. Divine figures adorns many walls of the caves. Thoughtfully planned water bodies of several thousand years ago makes you think of the advancements our Indian culture has when rest of the world was still lingering for the basic things. At least 5 textual inscriptions on the stones makes one of the first in our history. Entire site is protected by ASI. Adorned with serene beauty, lush green sahyadri ranges and waterfalls embracing like necklaces, this is must visit place. Thankfully away from urban hustle"

"A very beautiful buddhist caves. It's almost 2000+ year old. The caves have a similar architecture to kondana caves, implies there were lot of Buddhist travelling and influence. There are other caves nearby as well, if you wish to see. These are well marked on the map, so you won't get lost. You have to pay an entry fee initially, then a parking fee and again just prior to the entry. It's confusing, but it is what it is. There are guards at various places, you may ask them the history and in particular if you wish to know. I spoke to quite a few of them, and realised there is so much knowledge which has been lost. Just the architect itself would perhaps give you goose bumps. Without technology they carved into the rocks and not just straight but shaped in domes as well. The main entrance to the area has a beautiful wood structure as well. The first 3/4 were secured by the Britishers, but the other wood is as old as the structure and has no nut-bolt arrangement. You must go if you are around. There is drinking water available near to the caves, but nothing to eat. If you are carrying eatables please don't litter the area. The caves open around at 9am and shut at 6pm. There is no gudie but you may ask the guards to help you, if you wish."

"Beautiful caves surrounded by stunning natural facade. Waterfalls all around. Most caves are simple sans carvings but a couple them have some that are remarkable as they are one of the oldest in India. Especially amazing is the oldest physical depiction of Tabla.

We got caught in torrential rains but the rest of our visit was pleasant. For a more serene experience visit during weekdays.

Carry drinking water and wear comfortable footwear as there are 100+ steps to climb."
