What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Thangassery Lighthouse for its historical charm, breathtaking panoramic views, and the unique experience of ascending the tower. The well-maintained premises and the availability of both stairs and a lift add to its appeal. However, some note limited parking, less-than-friendly staff, and occasional crowding at the top.
"One of the famous tourist spots and landmarks in Kollam. The scenic beauty of Thankassery and the entire coastal region makes you mesmerized.
We recently visited here on a working day and went around 11 am. It's a good experience and not very crowded. Even though it's noon, there is so much cool atmosphere at the top but you should go for evening time, it's pretty more good. The staff service is good, and they always maintain the premises. I think you can spend a decent amount of time here without any boredom.
There are stairs and a lift available. If you have any health issues, then you should definitely go for the lift option because climbing too many steps makes you suffocate. They are charging an entry fee of र20 for adults, र10 for children(3-12) and senior citizens and र50 for foreign citizens. There is an extra fee of र10 for taking photos. You have to keep the footwear outside before entering the lighthouse & kindly remember that Monday is a holiday here. There is a children's park in the compound. There are washroom facilities provided in the corner."

"What a beautiful light house it is, with a lift inside to make our effort of walk easy to reach the top.
Beautiful view of the whole thamarassery area and kollam.
20rs is the admission fee for one person and 10 extra for using the camera.
10min is allowed maximum if there is rush to spend on the top. Otherwise 10-15 is maximum allowed.
Try to take the stairs instead of lift, if you want to burn some calories😜"

"The Thangassery Lighthouse in Kollam is a fascinating historical monument that still serves its purpose to this day. Climbing its 193 steps (with the top 10 restricted) offers an excellent opportunity to appreciate not only its functional design but also the brilliance of its architecture. The panoramic view from the top is simply breathtaking and well worth the climb.
For those who may find it difficult to climb, there's a surprising lift facility available a thoughtful addition without taking away from the charm of the lighthouse. That said, to truly experience its essence, taking the stairs is highly recommended.
The premises are well maintained, with ample parking, a small park for children, and even a snack counter offering refreshments at reasonable prices. Whether you're interested in history, architecture, or just want to enjoy a peaceful view, this lighthouse is a perfect destination."
