What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the Kolavipalam Turtle Sanctuary for its free entry and the passionate, community-driven conservation efforts. However, many note that the facility is in disrepair and underfunded, which impacts the overall visitor experience. Despite these drawbacks, the opportunity to see sea turtles and learn about marine conservation makes it a worthwhile, albeit basic, stop.
"Nestled in Kolavipalam, the Sea Turtle Conservation Centre stands as a crucial hub for protecting and preserving sea turtles. Housing three turtles, including one that follows a vegan diet, the center is a testament to dedication and inclusivity.
While the facility's commitment to sea turtle conservation is evident, it could benefit from renovations to enhance its impact. Despite this, the center's open-door policy, allowing free entry for all, fosters community involvement and collective responsibility.
In conclusion, the Sea Turtle Conservation Centre in Kolavipalam offers a unique opportunity to witness these magnificent creatures up close, contribute to their conservation, and be part of a community-driven initiative for a sustainable future."

"Due to insufficient funding this conservation centre is close to shambles. There are a couple of turtles in an almost empty pond. The small shed like office has no illumination. They could have added some potlights to showcase the large whale skeleton. The same bone structure could be seen in museums abroad for an entry fee of >50$. The local community should bring back this unit. The tourist revenue could be a good source of income for the municipality and nearby local markets."

"Kerala's first and best interpretation center for marine turtles. WWF India and Johnson Lifts and Escalators, Chennai renovated this center part of their project "Working Towards Conservation of Marine Turtles in Kerala""
