What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Lal Bagh Palace is praised for its magnificent European-inspired architecture, ornate interiors, and peaceful ambiance, offering a glimpse into the Holkar dynasty's grandeur. While some sections may be under renovation, the affordable entry fee and beautiful grounds make it a worthwhile visit for history and architecture enthusiasts. Some visitors note it might be less engaging for families compared to couples.
"My experience was quite good, but to get there you first need to bargain with the auto drivers. They will ask for ₹100, but you should only give them ₹20. They will tell you that the gate charges parking fees, but in reality, the parking is only ₹10. The place is not very far from the gate, so you can also go by walking.
As for inside, you won’t find drinking water there, so it’s better to carry your own water bottle. The entry ticket is just ₹20. There isn’t much special inside the palace. However, it’s a nice place for couples—it’s peaceful, surrounded by forest, and you can sit quietly and talk.
But if you are going with your family, then you won’t really find it that enjoyable."

"Lalbagh Palace is truly a gem of Indore, reflecting the grandeur and royal lifestyle of the Holkar dynasty. The architecture is magnificent with European-style interiors, sprawling lawns, and antique furniture that transport you back in time. The main durbar hall with its ornate chandeliers and royal decor is simply breathtaking.
A perfect place for history lovers, architecture enthusiasts, and anyone who enjoys exploring heritage. The palace is well-maintained and gives a glimpse of the rich cultural past of Indore. A must-visit landmark when you’re in the city! 🌸

"The place was pleasant and surrounded by greenery, which made the visit peaceful. However, some sections of the palace were closed to the public due to ongoing renovations.
Walking through the opulent halls, with their luxury dining rooms, billiard tables, and lavish interiors, I couldn’t help but reflect on the contrast it represented. The grandeur showcases the extravagance of the rulers, but at the same time, it highlights why India became so poor over time while ordinary people struggled for basic food and survival, palaces like this were being built with immense luxury.
Instead of feeling amazed by the architecture, I personally felt a sense of pain seeing such inequality carved into the history of the building."
