Manage Expectations: It's a Historic Wall

Devanahalli Fort is more of a historic wall enclosing a village than a traditional fort. While significant for its history, don't expect grand structures. It's a place for a quiet exploration of heritage.

Respect the Heritage Site

While entry is free and it's open 24/7, some visitors note graffiti and litter. Please help preserve this historical gem by not defacing walls and disposing of trash properly.

Reviews Summary

Devanahalli Fort is appreciated for its historical significance, particularly as Tipu Sultan's birthplace, and its free, 24/7 access. Visitors enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and the unique experience of a living village within its walls. However, some find the fort's maintenance lacking, with graffiti and a general sense of neglect detracting from its potential as a major tourist attraction.

"The historical significance of Devanahalli fort is so important for south India. As the the ruler of the south 'Tipu Sultan' was born inside of this fort during the 1500AD.
I had a great desire of visiting the fort but when I reached here, I am quite disappointed with how the fort is maintained. The fort has uneaten food left on the block and most part of the fort are filled with names of couples written all over the wall. I advice people to please not destroy such historically rich place.
Other than that, there is no entry fees. And inside the fort, there is a village and several beautiful hindu temples. If you are visiting for the first time, I would recommend you to visit the fort. It's mainly an old wall, other than that there is not much to do here."

"Nice historical place near Bangalore.
Devanahalli Fort is a peaceful and well-maintained historical site about 35 km from Bangalore. It's not very crowded and has some beautiful old architecture, including a temple and Tipu Sultan’s birthplace. Good for a short visit or a weekend drive. Entry is free. Worth checking out if you enjoy history and quiet places."

"Not a Fort, Just a Forgotten Wall

This isn’t really a fort—more like a neglected stretch of wall that has seen better days. What could have been a beautiful tourist destination is now little more than ruins. Only the outer wall remains, and within it lies a small town or village settlement.

There’s nothing particularly engaging or historic to see here. Unless you’re completely out of things to do and simply want a walk along an elevated wall-like structure, I wouldn’t recommend making the trip. Visit at your own risk."
