Reviews Summary

Kashmiri Gate is a significant historical monument with free entry, offering a glimpse into India's past, particularly the 1857 rebellion. While the heritage site is appreciated, the adjacent bus terminal (ISBT) receives mixed reviews, with some noting cleanliness issues and a lack of basic amenities like charging points. Reddit

"This is major bus terminal of Delhi. But there is no charging point if you are sit on the bench or chairs. We can't charge any device. Fan are not working. And security checker behaviour is also rudely. Water cooler not properly clean. Behind the bus terminal and near metro station are very dirty and bad smell."

"Kashmere Gate ISBT.
Its condition is good.
Neat and Clean.
Checking at Entry Point.
I went to Kashmere Gate ISBT and then I took the Bus(Roadways) for Dehradun ISBT and all the process took only 5-12 Minutes.
I bought Tickets on the Bus through the Conductor.
Kashmere Gate ISBT is only 100-150 Steps from Kashmere Gate Metro Station.

One more thing guys there were sellers around the busses and they try to sell you their products but here I am going to tell you if you buy Water Bottle just watch it clearly is that Bisleri or something else.
There is a copy of Bisleri in the market.
And so on things should be noted as well."

"A Glimpse into History:
Kashmiri Gate stands as a poignant reminder of India's struggle for independence. Originally a fortified gateway into Shahjahanabad, it was developed by Shahjahan in 1638. The sturdy, rubble-built walls and bastions speak to its origins as a defensive structure, guarding the city's northern entry towards Kashmir.
The Siege of 1857:
The gate’s historical significance peaked during the Mutiny of 1857. Indian freedom fighters used this strategic location to attack British forces. The British in turn, used cannons to breach the gate, an act that is marked by a memorial plaque and visible damage to the structure itself.
A Symbol of Sacrifice:
The scars on the walls and a memorial stone, visible near the gate, stand as a testament to the heavy fighting and sacrifice on both sides. This gate is a profound symbol of the valor and determination of those who fought for freedom.
A Powerful Heritage Site:
Today, Kashmiri Gate is an archaeological marvel maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. The site, with its surrounding greenery, offers a peaceful yet powerful experience, allowing visitors to walk through a piece of history and reflect on the sacrifices made for the nation’s liberty."

A Glimpse into History: The 1857 Rebellion

Kashmiri Gate is steeped in history, most notably for its role in the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Originally built by Mughal Emperor Shahjahan in the mid-17th century as a northern gateway to his capital, Shahjahanabad, the gate's robust structure served as a strategic defense. During the 1857 Mutiny, it became a focal point of conflict. Indian freedom fighters used it to resist British forces, who in turn bombarded the gate from outside the city walls to breach the defenses. Reddit

The physical evidence of this battle is still visible today. You can see damage to the gate's facade caused by cannon fire, and a memorial plaque near the gate commemorates the British and Indian soldiers who lost their lives in the intense fighting. Visiting Kashmiri Gate offers a tangible connection to this pivotal moment in India's struggle for independence, making it a powerful heritage site. Reddit

Navigating the Kashmere Gate ISBT

Adjacent to the historical monument is the Kashmere Gate Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT), one of Delhi's busiest transport hubs. This is where countless travelers begin or end their journeys across North India. While reviews indicate the ISBT is generally neat and clean, some visitors have noted issues like non-working fans and a lack of charging points on benches. Reddit

Travelers often buy tickets directly from bus conductors or at designated counters within the terminal. It's important to be aware of your surroundings, as sellers around the buses may try to sell products. One common tip is to carefully check water bottles for authenticity, as counterfeit versions of popular brands are reportedly sold. Reddit The proximity to the metro station makes it a convenient, albeit sometimes chaotic, transit point. Reddit
