What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary for its serene natural beauty and the unique butterfly park, offering an immersive conservation experience. While animal sightings are rare, the peaceful ambiance, lush forests, and treetop watchtowers provide a fulfilling escape for nature lovers. Some find the lack of animal sightings disappointing, but the overall tranquility and educational aspects are highly valued.
"Visiting Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary was an experience I’ll never forget, but what truly stole the show was the butterfly park. I’ve been fascinated by butterflies for years, but I’ve never seen them given this much attention and care in a sanctuary setting. It isn’t just about spotting them fluttering by — the park actually takes you through their entire life cycle in real time. From the tiniest egg to the chrysalis stage and then the emergence of a butterfly, it’s all there to witness up close. Standing there and watching this delicate process felt surreal, like stepping inside nature’s own classroom.
The space itself is beautifully designed, lush with host plants and nectar sources that make it a paradise not just for butterflies but also for anyone who loves nature. What impressed me most was how thoughtfully it’s all maintained — you can tell there’s a genuine effort to create an environment where these fragile creatures can thrive. It’s not gimmicky, not just for photos, but rooted in respect for the species and education for visitors.
As someone who’s visited plenty of sanctuaries, I can honestly say Cotigao’s butterfly park is one of the best examples of how conservation should feel: immersive, respectful, and inspiring. Walking out, I felt not only awestruck but also more connected to the idea that protecting the smallest beings can teach us the biggest lessons."

"Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary located In Canacona is one of Goa’s hidden Gem. A place for those who seek true nature. For someone who appreciates nature’s biodiversity beyond the beaches. Watching wildlife from above one of the watchtowers, or simply listening to the forest’s rhythm, is an excellent pick for nature lovers and travelers. This place is full of fascinating fauna such as flying squirrels, slender loris, Indian pangolin, mouse deer, four horned antelope, and a variety of snakes. Goa's state animal the Indian Bison (Gaur) can also been seen frequently over here."
