What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Russell Market is a historic, bustling hub offering a wide array of fresh produce, meats, and spices at competitive prices. While praised for its authenticity and variety, visitors should be prepared for a crowded, wet, and sometimes unhygienic environment. Its colonial architecture adds a unique charm, but infrastructure maintenance is noted as a drawback.
"To buy fresh fish at wholesale price this will be the perfect place in Bangalore. It is congested wet market. So be prepared face the crowd and dirty water splashes.. otherwise varieties of fish and the price is worth to visit here.. Vanjeeram fish small (about 1.5feet) sold at 400/kg include cutting and cleaning. The big vanjeeram about 3-4kg fish they charge at 650-800/kg.. but it all depends on the demand while you visit. Parking would be challenging... If you go by bike you can go closer to market and park the bikes.. but for Cars youneed to park little far and walk is advisable...."

"One of the oldest markets in Bangalore, nearly a century old, losing its glory and getting infamous.
Built in 1933 and named after the then Municipal Commissioner T B Russel.
Positives :
* Variety of fruits and Veggies and flowers
* Lot of shops for mutton, chicken and sea foods
* Reasonable prices, great for bargain lovers
Negatives:
* Poorly maintained infra - congested walk ways, dilapidated roof, walls, electrical circuits
* Unhygienic at all places, smelly all over
* Congested with crowd
* Unruly behaviour of people
Has a nice look from outside but inside is terrible
Little paid parking space available in the front, opp to St. Mary’s basilica."

"Russell Market in Shivajinagar is just a minute’s walk from the bus stand. Once a famous, lively market, it’s sadly lost much of its old-world charm. The place isn’t clean — narrow, messy lanes and a strong market smell everywhere. It can be maintained better, but no one really bothers. The vegetable, meat, and flower sections still stay busy with locals. A nostalgic spot for many, but far from what it could be."
