Visitors appreciate its historical significance and the recent renovation into a cultural center and museum. Some reviewers note a lack of detailed historical information and suggest better maintenance by the ASI.
"Amazing place to visit in almora locality the view from here it is very nice. I always went here whenever I get time make sure to visit during sunset. Also, and on a semi cloudy day, you will love it. I can assure you that earlier. It wasn't available for civilians, but from 2022 here. You can definitely visit and have some heritage and information about the kumaui tradition and culture, which is here is amazing. This Mahal was the Mahal of uttarakhand almora, first king kumaoni, king and here rest history should definitely visit"

"Fort constructed during the Chand dynasty, beautiful architecture. Rare to see in the kumaon regions. It's under renovation. There is not much historical explanation regarding this fort. There is one slab on the wall telling that it's of the Chand dynasty and taken by the British government and renovated by them. The Archeological Survey of India(ASI) has to get a look into the structures and maintain them to save our heritage. The entire Almora village view can be seen from here as it is on the vantage point."

"During the second phase of Almora's settlement, during the reign of Raja Rudrachand in 1588-89, a new royal residence, known as Malla Mahal, was constructed in the center of the city. Raja Baj Bahadur Chand installed the Nanda Devi idol here in 1671, brought from Garhwal. However, during the invasions of the Rohillas and later the British, most of the palace was destroyed, leaving only the temple and the outer defensive ramparts.Later, the British constructed new buildings. The British initially commissioned the District Magistrate's office and an adjoining building for official use.
The entire complex has now been renovated.
The Uttarakhand government has now transformed this entire complex into a magnificent cultural center and museum."
