Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Retro Museum Budapest for its immersive and interactive journey into the 70s and 80s, offering a unique glimpse into everyday life during the communist era. The recreated apartments and vintage vehicles are particular highlights, providing excellent photo opportunities and a strong sense of nostalgia. While some find it a bit pricey for its size, most agree it's a fun and engaging experience for all ages.

"Visit! Especially for those who have not lived in Eastern Europe before the wall came down. This was fascinating. It's not so much a history museum as an homage to the attempts to offer Hungarians of the 1950s to 1980s a semblance of Western consumer goods and lifestyle. We love this sort of stuff and we ate it up.

Ok, if I offer one thing, it was a little overkill with the Commodore computer stuff but I get that this museum is passion project and the proprietor is rightly proud of more than one passion."

"Really enjoyable experience. Felt like taking a time machine back to the relevant period.

Attended not too long after the museum has opened and it was nice and quiet.

Plenty of stuff to see for all age ranges.

Most exhibits have relevant text Hungarian, English, German and Russian.

What I enjoyed about the museum is that it focused on the its actual purpose and was pretty much mostly objective."

Anil Banga

"A nice little museum thats takes its visitors on a nostalgic journey, the themes are various, such as video games and armory, the design is nice, many items are for example exhibited within models of the communist housing blocks and some parts are interactive, some of which didn't work/ I didn't understand, but for me the highlights were the entertaining and ironic texts about childhood in communist hungary in multiple languages and the retro café which isn't only beautifully designed but feels authentic due to its "retro" menu and assortment of retro candies! I bought a pin and a poster as a souvenir and the friendly staff members were incredibly helpful in satisfying my curiosity!"
