Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise Gellért Hill for its absolutely breathtaking panoramic views of Budapest, especially during sunset. The historical Citadel and the unique Cave Church add significant appeal. Some visitors note that construction at the Citadel can limit access, and the climb can be strenuous for some.

"Now the fort is under renovation and so is it closed. One can walk around though for an admiring view of Budapest from across the hill."

Vincent MA

"The Citadel is currently under reconstruction, and access is closed, so we were a bit disappointed. However, this wasn’t our first visit.
In any case, there are excellent viewpoints around the Citadel with incredible views of Pest. The sights are simply magical.
Visiting the Citadel is definitely a must when in Budapest — it’s absolutely essential!"

Marija Seiz

"Really stunning viewpoint on the Buda side, if you’re willing to make the hike up. It probably takes a good 20 minutes at least, but it’s so worth it. There are views and great photo ops all along the way.

The Citadel was closed for construction when we went which was really disappointing- this is at the top of the hill so we climbed all the way just to figure out it wasn’t open (had we read signs prior we could’ve figured this out sooner).

But despite this, we found some great spots to enjoy the view of the city and take it all in, and also get some exercise.

If you have kids, there’s a part where there’s a whole playground for them to play on which was really cute."
