🔖Save this post for later and follow me for more 😎 🚌The Bus 100E makes 3 stops: Kálvin Tér, Astoria and Deák Ferenc Tér. 🎟️Price of the ticket 2200 huf 🤳Currently you can pay now in the bus with card 🚌An alternative is to take the bus 200E included in the pass but in my opinion it will take a long ride and you just save a few euros. #budapest #budapesthungary #budapesthungaryblog #budapestairp...

In the names of Budapest public transport stops, the letter 'M' indicates a metro station, and the letter 'H' indicates the HÉV, which is a suburban railway. This means that if a stop name is followed by 'M' and/or 'H', you can transfer there to the metro and/or HÉV. #budapest #bkk #bus #ptf #travelboast

Did you know Budapest has a direct Airport Express Bus (100E)? It always runs the same route, from the airport to the city center and back. The ride takes around 40 minutes. Super easy, reliable and available 24/7. Perfect if you want a stress-free way to get straight to downtown! #budapest #budapestairport #traveltips #budapesthungary

Reviews Summary

Budapest's public transport network is generally praised for its efficiency, affordability, and extensive reach, making it easy to explore the city. While the 100E bus offers a convenient airport transfer, some travelers note its increasing cost and potential for crowding. Occasional issues with ticket enforcement have also been mentioned.

"An excellent service. Picks up at the two inner city locations. You can pay with card tap at front of the bus. There are also people with vests helping with paid tickets and for boarding. Lots of space, try to get on early. Buses are very fast and regular. Cheap and quick, highly recommend."

Michael Stone

"100E bus was an excellent service. It’s approx 40 minutes from the centre of Pest to the airport. You can buy a ticket or use the BudapestGo App. Excellent service, as is the rest of the transport in Budapest."

Angie G

"Efficient and low cost option between BUD and City Center. However, be aware that:
1. You can only purchase the discounted (1000HUF) Add-On ticket IF you also bought a 30-day or longer pass. I bought it with the 15-day pass and was rejected at boarding. Had to buy another FULL PRICE (2200HUF) ticket.
2. Between 5AM and Midnight they will NOT pick up passengers at Astoria M stop. Only at Deak Ferenc Ter and Kálvin Ter stops.
3. It’s very crowded as many already said. 40 minutes ride is a long time to stand, especially with luggage.
4. As far as I know, there is only ONE elevator from Metro 3 stop at Deak Ferenc Ter. Otherwise, you’ll have to carry your (heavy) luggage up a flight of stairs from the metro to street level."

For Different Travelers

Tailored advice for your travel style

👨‍👩‍👧 Families with Kids

Budapest's public transport can be a fun adventure for families. The trams and buses offer great views of the city, and the metro provides a quick way to cover longer distances. Consider purchasing a family travelcard if available, or a multi-day pass for unlimited rides, which can be more economical than buying individual tickets for everyone. TikTok Be mindful of peak hours, as buses and trams can get crowded, making it challenging with strollers or young children. Reddit Look for routes that offer scenic views, like tram line 2 along the Danube, which provides stunning perspectives of Parliament and Buda Castle.

💰 Budget Travelers

For budget-conscious travelers, the 200E bus from the airport is a key money-saver, especially when combined with a Budapest travelcard. Reddit While the 100E is convenient, its higher ticket price can add up. Opting for multi-day passes over single tickets for general city travel will also significantly reduce your expenses. TikTok Walking and utilizing the extensive tram network are excellent ways to explore the city without incurring extra costs. Many attractions are within walking distance of each other, and trams offer a scenic and affordable way to get around.

Navigating the Airport Transfer: 100E vs. 200E

When arriving at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD), you have two primary public transport options to reach the city center: the 100E Airport Express Bus and the 200E bus. The 100E bus is a direct service that takes approximately 40 minutes to reach key downtown locations like Deák Ferenc Tér. It's convenient as it runs 24/7 and has no intermediate stops, making it a fast choice. However, it requires a specific airport shuttle bus ticket, which is more expensive than a standard public transport ticket, costing around 2200 HUF. TikTok+3

The 200E bus is a more economical alternative, especially if you plan to use public transport extensively. While it doesn't go directly to the city center, it connects to the metro network. If you possess a valid Budapest travelcard (e.g., 24-hour, 72-hour, or longer), you can use the 200E for free. Without a pass, a single ticket for the 200E is significantly cheaper than the 100E. The journey on the 200E involves a transfer to the metro, making it a longer but more budget-conscious option. TikTokReddit

Travelers often debate which is better, with the 100E praised for its directness and the 200E for its cost-effectiveness when combined with a travel pass. It's crucial to check current pricing and consider your travel plans and budget when deciding. TikTok

Understanding Budapest's Travelcards and Ticketing

Budapest's public transport system, managed by BKK, offers various ticketing options to suit different visitor needs. The most popular for tourists are the travelcards, which provide unlimited travel on most trams, buses, and metro lines within their validity period. Options typically include 24-hour, 72-hour, and multi-day passes. These are highly recommended for those planning to explore the city extensively, as they eliminate the need to purchase individual tickets for each journey and can be more cost-effective. TikTok

For specific services like the 100E Airport Express Bus, a special ticket is required, which is not covered by standard travelcards. This ticket can be purchased at machines, via the Budapest Go app, or sometimes directly from the bus. TikTok+1 It's important to be aware of the different ticket types and their validity. Some travelers have reported issues with conductors enforcing strict rules, so ensuring you have the correct and valid ticket for each journey is crucial to avoid fines or the need to repurchase tickets. Reddit

When using the system, pay attention to the signage. The letter 'M' indicates a metro station, and 'H' signifies a HÉV suburban railway station, which are vital for understanding transfer points within the network. TikTok Familiarizing yourself with the Budapest Go app can also greatly simplify ticket purchases and route planning. TikTok
