What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Lantau Island for its diverse attractions, from the majestic Big Buddha and serene monastery to the charming Tai O fishing village and the thrilling Ngong Ping 360 cable car. The natural beauty and cultural experiences are highlights, though some find the cable car prices steep and crowds can be significant on weekends.
"Loved being here and it was a great experience. Make sure to take the cable car and get in the queue early on the weekends. The views from the cable car are fabulous. You can take a cab or a bus as well to get to the top but recommend the cable car for the onward or return journey.
Up on the hill visiting the monastery and the Buddha statue was simply divine. Feel blessed to have visited.
I must say that everything is so well organised and convenient. If you’re leaving HK and have a few hours, you can also do this and leave your luggage at the storage below. it’s so close and well connected to the airport. Best to spend half a day or more if you can. So many food choices as well and such well maintained and well managed facility."

"I absolutely loved the cable car ride. It was beyond amazing and the view is breathtaking. I would do it over and over again. For the best experience take the crystal cabin with glass floor. Round trip per person is 315 HKD.
When you enter the cabin one of staff will take your picture and once you arrive on the other side you will see it printed. The price for the picture is almost the price for the ride which is expensive. And you see most of gjr people not buying them which ends up in waste. They should reconsider their prices for the pictures I guess. Other than that it's a beautiful experience and I'll do it again."

The Ngong Ping 360 Experience
While the cable car is a popular choice, it's advisable to pre-book tickets to avoid potentially long queues, especially during peak seasons and weekends. The journey itself takes about 25 minutes, allowing ample time to soak in the scenery. Upon arrival at Ngong Ping, you're greeted by the impressive Tian Tan Buddha and the Po Lin Monastery, making it a seamless transition from travel to exploration.
Exploring the Charm of Tai O Fishing Village
Visitors can take boat tours from Tai O to explore the waterways and potentially spot the elusive pink dolphins (though sightings are not guaranteed). Hiking Adventures on Lantau Island
For the more adventurous, the West Dog Teeth hike is known as one of Hong Kong's toughest, involving scrambling and bouldering. Other notable trails include the Dragon's Back (though technically on the eastern side of HK Island, it offers similar coastal views) and routes around Mui Wo. Remember to carry sufficient water, wear appropriate footwear, and check weather conditions before embarking on any hike.
