What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Hong Kong Stadium offers a vibrant atmosphere for major sporting events and concerts, with many praising the energy and iconic status, especially for the Rugby Sevens. However, some visitors note outdated restroom facilities and the lack of full roof coverage in certain areas, alongside challenges with surrounding traffic and pedestrian access.
"Condition of the pitch is average most of the time. The spectator stance is nicely designed although not every section has a roof which can be very depressing during rainy summer months. F&B supply has a fairly good capacity inside the stadium.
The location of the pitch requires some walking from CWB MTR station. The road traffic can be terrible due to the narrow roads."

"First time and (I guess my last) at this stadium since the HK 7s is moving to a new venue from 2025. I was surprised at how outdated the facilities were especially the ladies bathrooms - kind of felt like I had stepped back in time and flushing never seemed to work. The condition of the ladies bathrooms in the upper stands were better but still not as modern as I thought they would be. The infrastructure around the stadium is also not ideal particularly the roads and sidewalks being too narrow in need of expansion and general improvement. I guess it was about time that the 7s moves to a new venue given that it is an international event the standard of venue needs to be at the same level. A lot of the stadium staff weren't very clued up on the stadium layout and general event info. Spectators were basically walking amongst kegs of beer and staff loading and off loading equipment and stock - quite an obvious safety hazard as staff should be placing equipment and stock out of sight and therefore, out of the spectator areas. No game screens in the food and drink areas. I really liked that there were drinking fountains (although more of these were needed). Also like that there were escalators to get to the upper stands. I'm not sure if there were lifts as I didn't see any so not sure how accessible the stadium is. Great location as it is just a 12 minute walk from the Causeway Bay train station. The only downside is that it is mostly an uphill walk so taking into account the humidity as well it basically became a work out for me for the 3 days but this wasn't a bad thing at all. Quite a nice view of the city in the evening walking down from the upper stands."

The Hong Kong Sevens Experience
While the stadium has hosted this iconic event for years, it's important to note that the Hong Kong Sevens will be moving to a new venue starting in 2025. This marks the end of an era for the tournament at its long-standing home.
Attending the Sevens means immersing yourself in a unique blend of world-class rugby and a lively festival atmosphere. Expect a full three days of non-stop action on the pitch and a party atmosphere in the stands.
Concerts and Performances
When attending a concert, expect a high-energy environment. The stadium's acoustics and setup are designed to accommodate large audiences, ensuring a memorable auditory and visual experience. Many attendees highlight the seamless organization of these events, from entry to the performance itself.
Beyond music, the stadium has also been a venue for other spectacular performances, including grand opening ceremonies for new sports parks, featuring athletes and singers. The surprise appearances of local legends, like Andy Lau, have added to the unforgettable nature of these events.
Architectural Significance and Redevelopment
However, as the stadium ages, there have been discussions and observations about its facilities, particularly concerning modernization. While some aspects, like escalators to upper stands, are appreciated, others, like restroom conditions, have been noted as outdated.
The recent opening of the Kai Tak Sports Park signifies a new era for major sporting and entertainment venues in Hong Kong. While the Hong Kong Stadium has served the city admirably, the emergence of new facilities suggests a potential shift in the primary venues for large-scale events in the future.
