This weeks job was to install this new shed for the folk and costume museum for much needed storage room before they opened on the 2nd of April to clear some space in the museum. The shed is based off a stable design and was a custom size to suit the area and was imported from the Uk. There was a few issues along the way but we’re all easily over come and went from a pallet load to secure, win...

Visitors praise the Guernsey Folk and Costume Museum for its free entry and fascinating insights into island history and traditional attire. The collection of costumes and household items offers a charming glimpse into the past. However, some guests have noted that the on-site cafe can be overwhelmed during busy periods, leading to slow service.

"The National Trust of Guernsey’s Folk and Costume Museum, located in the heart of St. Peter Port, is a charming and informative destination that offers visitors a deep dive into the island’s social history, traditional costumes, and everyday life through the centuries. Housed in an atmospheric 18th-century building, the museum is a testament to Guernsey's rich cultural heritage and the island’s distinct blend of French and British influences.

The museum’s main focus is its exceptional collection of historic costumes, which span several centuries and offer an insightful look into the evolution of fashion in Guernsey. The carefully preserved garments—many of which are hand-stitched—illustrate the island’s traditional dress, particularly from the 18th and 19th centuries, and highlight how local fabrics and styles were influenced by the island’s geography and history. The museum also houses a range of household items, textiles, and tools that help to recreate a snapshot of daily life on the island in past centuries.

In addition to its exhibits on costume and domestic life, the museum offers a glimpse into Guernsey’s agricultural and maritime heritage, with displays showcasing farming equipment, seafaring tools, and local crafts. The museum’s intimate setting and personal atmosphere allow visitors to connect with the island’s past in a meaningful way, making it a perfect stop for history enthusiasts and anyone keen to learn more about Guernsey's cultural identity.

Overall, the Folk and Costume Museum is a delightful and educational experience, offering a hands-on look at the island’s history and traditions."
