Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the stunning panoramic views from the summit and the lush, beautiful forests along the trails. The opportunity to descend directly to the relaxing Fuentes Georginas hot springs is a major highlight, offering a perfect post-hike reward. However, some find the trails steep and slippery, especially after rain, and recommend hiring a guide due to the multiple, potentially confusing paths.

"The Zunil Volcano, located in the department of Quetzaltengo, is a medium-difficulty climb. It offers impressive views of the volcanoes of the West: Acatenango, Agua, Fuego, Atitlán, Toliman, San Pedro, Paquisis, Santo Tomas, Cerro Quemado, Santa María, Tacana, and Tajumulco. You can also see Lake Atitlán. There are several routes to enter, including the Chiquisis Village. The community members charge Q20 for admission. Depending on the pace, this route can take you two to three hours to reach the summit.
The route is fairly clean and has excellent camping spots. If you wish, you can descend via another route to Las Fuentes Georginas. The ascent is difficult in parts due to the very slippery terrain."

"A beautiful volcano with gorgeous forests, you can climb from Fuentes Georginas at the beginning. The trails are steep and slippery with many slopes. Zunil Volcano has a height of 3,542 meters, it is the seventh highest in Guatemala, also known as Komokin Volcano, from where the hot springs come.
Previously, it was considered a mountain because it has no crater and is often confused with the Santo Tomás Volcano (Pecul).
The climb takes approximately 5 hours. Depending on your pace, it is best to climb in the summer. I climbed it in July and during these times it gets quite cloudy, but it is still worth the climb and enjoying the trails with lots of nature and vegetation. The routes are marked, although there are several trails. You can climb alone or with a guide, it is recommended if you are unfamiliar with the routes. The municipality of Zunil takes great care of the forests, although there are always people who do not care about taking care of them because they litter. I recommend climbing it and then you can go to Fuentes Georginas and relax in the hot springs."
