What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Iximche for its historical significance and affordability, noting its active use for Mayan ceremonies. While some find the ruins less grand than other sites, the opportunity to witness living culture and the helpfulness of local guides are frequently highlighted positives. The lack of extensive signage is a common point, reinforcing the value of a guide.
"Nice site and not to busy in the morning. With a guide you get more detailed info on how it was."
Remco Brandt
"This is a great, smaller site to see, especially if you can't get to Tikal. Many of the mounds are still covered with dirt and only a few are exposed. Several ball courts to see, but no real pyramids compared to Tikal. We also got to see some rituals being performed. There is a small museum. It was not crowded at all when we were there. Having a guide was very helpful because there aren't a lot of signs or explanations within the park itself."
Caryn Isabelle
"A dream come true visiting Iximche. I studied this site way back in my university days, and its history and relevance stayed firmly planted in my mind. What i was its importance to the current day Mayans, and it's continued use as a ceremonial site. This day, the visit, the ruins, conservation, and interpretation will stay with me forever."
