What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors generally find Auto Safari Chapín to be a unique and fun experience, especially for families wanting to see animals up close. The giraffe feeding and drive-through safari are consistently praised. However, some note that animal enclosures in the walking zoo could be improved, and the swimming pool can be overwhelmingly crowded on weekends.
"Something unique to do in Guatemala. We decided to do a family trip out so the kids could see some animals. The experience was super cool. It seemed the animals were taken care of considering being confined. The process of registering and paying was quick and easy. They had a decent variety of animals.
The lion and tiger were definitely the highlight. We also fed the giraffes which was super cool. It cost about Q10 for a batch of carrots. The staff was nice and helped get the giraffes to come to us so we could feed them.
It took about an hour and half to go through the entire place. You get to drive through in your car. Half way through there is a space to stop, use the bathroom and feed the giraffes. At the end there is a Zoo like area that you can get out of the car and walk around to see different animals. They also had a pool and restaurant area but we decided not to use it. Overall cool experience if you are looking to do something different with your family."

"My kids and I loved visiting Autosafari Chapín whenever we were on our way to renew visas at the El Salvador border. The animals are well-kept, living in large outdoor habitats.
You get a good look at some local creatures, and some from other parts of the world. The surroundings are lovely, and there are some places to picnic.
The cafeteria is a good place to eat, and they have delicious ice cream We always planned a swim and a meal at the end of a visit."

"Unfortunately I thought we would get into smaller vehicles to view the zoo. But instead we continued to drive around on our 60 person bus. That made seeing the animals tough. So if your tour goes here, be advised that it’s not going to be a good experience."

The Unique Liger of Auto Safari Chapín
The presence of such a rare animal highlights the park's role in conservation and its commitment to showcasing diverse wildlife. It's a testament to the dedication of the park's staff in caring for these animals and providing educational opportunities for visitors.
When planning your visit, make sure to allocate time to see the liger. It's an unforgettable encounter that adds an extra layer of wonder to your safari adventure.
Navigating the Safari Experience
However, the type of vehicle you use can significantly impact your experience. While personal cars offer flexibility, larger tour buses can make viewing animals difficult due to their size and distance from the enclosures. For the best views and a more intimate encounter, a smaller vehicle is recommended. It's also wise to visit during the cooler parts of the day, as animals tend to be more active and visible when they're not seeking shade from the midday sun.
Beyond the drive-through, the park features a zoo-like area where you can disembark and walk among various species. While this offers a different perspective, some visitors note that the enclosures in this section can be too small for the animals. Despite this, the overall experience is widely considered a fun and unique outing, especially for families looking for something different.
Family Fun and Amenities
Beyond the animals, the park provides additional amenities to enhance the visitor experience. There's a swimming pool area, which is a great way to cool off, especially on hot days. However, be aware that this area can get extremely crowded on weekends, potentially diminishing the enjoyment for some. For those looking for a bite to eat, a cafeteria is available, offering a place to refuel with snacks and meals, including popular ice cream.
Many visitors find the park to be a convenient and enjoyable escape from the routine, especially given its proximity to major areas like Antigua and Guatemala City. It's a place where families can connect with nature and create shared experiences, making it a worthwhile day trip.
